I don’t think these things are comparable and it’s not a competition, just a thought experiment

    i think orphan is better, at least you are free from abused or neglected and have freedom of choices

    I had option 2. I guess that would depend on where I ended up with option 1. Am I in the system also getting abused and neglected? Do I get adopted by decent people? Or do I have to figure out life all alone and some young age?

      i also had option 2. I think I’d rather be an orphan than have my childhood.

    At least as an orphan there’s some oversight.

    “Abusive” can mean anything from occasional shouting, to locked in a closet and starved.

    If as an orphan I end up placed with some fundamentalist Christian family, that would be worse than occasionally being yelled at, but better than being locked in a closet.

    So, it comes down to what the person imagines “abusive” being.

    I think it depends on the level of abuse or neglect. Someone who gets beaten every day would probably rather be orphan, but someone raised as christian could forgive that
