I’ve done Ansible professionally for 3 years, now. I’ve used puppet, chef/cinc, I’ve played with mgmtconfig, and I’ve built entire ecosystems out of cron+make+rpm since 2002, 6 years before ‘devops’ had a name.

Don’t use Ansible. EVERYTHING ELSE is better. Please consider any option before it. Strongly consider mgmtconfig.

I get it. False consensus aside, it’s a trope that Americans don’t much care about things outside their borders. Many Americans never cross a border, and for many people if it doesn’t affect them directly then it’s just noise in a busy day.

But with such long unguarded borders, minimal manufacturing, insufficient resources and a surplus of cash crops, it needs friends who will deal squarely with it and help secure those borders.

And when the oil and electricity run short, I hope America is cool paying “market prices” if we’re no longer best-buds.

Short-sighted kids are a little more common after we fired the mentors and documenters in our field: they don’t know how or why we did such dumb things before and thus can’t avoid them.
