Given the number of people I know personally who got Deathly Hallows triangle tattoos I have absolutely no problem believing this. Seriously why was that tattoo so popular?
Because it’s small, simple, looks nice, and is referential without being overly obvious.

Those books were genuinely meaningful to a lot of people. And until relatively recently, JK Rowling was a bit of a liberal darling. I remember an interview with her talking about being on welfare and how we should care for the poor. The books were clearly an allegory for fascism. I don’t blame anyone for getting that tattoo. My mom read me the first 3 or 4 books as a child. I waited in line at midnight for the release for the 5th. It was deeply meaningful to my childhood. If JK had not outed herself as a piece of complete trash by the time my mom passed away, I likely would have gotten an HP tattoo. I’m very glad I did not.
Anyone who got one after she outed herself is a POS, though. You just generally can’t tell when they got it.
I get what you are saying and I lived through HP mania too, but I didn’t ask why Harry Potter tattoos were a thing, I asked by the deathly hallows tattoo was so popular. I only know like one person who has a Harry Potter tattoo that isn’t the triangle (it’s a snitch).

Yeah, I think just because it’s recognizable within the fandom, and not recognizable to those outside of it (at least, in theory. It becoming so popular killed that). It’s an in group marker. Sort of a HP dog whistle lol
Personally, if I had gotten an HP tattoo before the JK stuff, I’d probably have gone for the more classic glasses and scar combo, or possible a wand on my wrist.
Misleading stat. The number of people who died in car crashes is far higher than wingsuit accidents but the latter is inherently riskier than the former.

Im pretty sure by “more people”, this post is referring to percentages. I have seen a version of this that uses statistics for regret rates for tattoos and for transitioning if i remember correctly
