I get what you are saying and I lived through HP mania too, but I didn’t ask why Harry Potter tattoos were a thing, I asked by the deathly hallows tattoo was so popular. I only know like one person who has a Harry Potter tattoo that isn’t the triangle (it’s a snitch).

Yeah, I think just because it’s recognizable within the fandom, and not recognizable to those outside of it (at least, in theory. It becoming so popular killed that). It’s an in group marker. Sort of a HP dog whistle lol
Personally, if I had gotten an HP tattoo before the JK stuff, I’d probably have gone for the more classic glasses and scar combo, or possible a wand on my wrist.
