Well, the US famously don’t like immigrants, so I’m sure the fine boys from ICE will sort him out.

    What?

What do you mean it doesn’t matter because he’s rich?

Well, that’s an oddly unprincipled stance to take. So, perfectly good foreign nationals will low net worth will be incarcerated but literally the delivery himself would not if he had wealth?

Yes I know who Elon Musk is…

Ok. I can’t figure out what you mean by “second biggest.” At first I assumed you meant “America” as the continent, rather than “South America,” since Brazil is the biggest country in the latter by quite a wide margin (it’s about four times the size of Argentina). But Brazil is the third largest Pan-American country after Canada and the US. So, ok, you must have a different definition in mind. Second-largest in the Southern hemisphere, maybe? But Brazil is bigger than Australia, by a million square kilometers.

Second-largest…uh…country with a large part of its mainland in UTC-3? (After Canada.) Second-largest country from which you can draw a direct line to Antarctica? (That one might be debatable, actually.) Second-largest country whose Northern border is closer to Canada than it is to its Southern border? (After the US, and yes, that’s true.)

      I need answers!

Not even close. South Africa is like an eighth the size of Brazil. Australia is significantly bigger than South Africa, too, though slightly smaller than Brazil; and Angola, Peru, a good chunk of Congo, and Argentina are all (a) South of the Equator, (b) bigger than South Africa, and © smaller than Australia.

In Spanish, América is a single continent composed of the subcontinents of América del Sur and América del Norte, the land bridge of América Central, and the islands of the Antillas. Americano or americana in Spanish refers to a person from América in a similar way that in which europeo or europea refers to a person from Europa. The terms sudamericano/a, centroamericano/a, antillano/a and norteamericano/a can be used to more specifically refer to the location where a person may live.

Apparently its a language barrier thing.

I actually go further personally. Afro-Eurasia is a single supercontinent. The Americas are a single continent. Oceania is one (Not just Australia but all the large islands out that way), and Antarctica. So I’d say we have 4. Then lots of subcontinents.

What movies are distinction between a geographical definition of a continent and a political definition.

The geographical definition of a continent puts large parts of China in Europe and that just doesn’t seem right. It also means that New Zealand is its own continent all on its own.

What a weird way to put it. I’d argue Europe doesn’t exist. It’s a pureply political distinction. It’s just far west asia. Or Eurasia if you want to be a bit inclusive.

Most (maybe all?) European countries consider them to be two continents. Because they are.

But even if we look at the Americas as a single continent, Brazil would only be the third largest country, because Canada would be second.

There are four hemispheres; each colocated with halves of two others. There’s a Northern and Southern hemisphere, yes, but there’s also an Eastern and Western hemisphere; one from the Prime Meridian East to the Date Line, and the other from the Prime Meridian West to the Date Line.

And actually, geographers talk about a third hemisphere delineation: the “Land Hemisphere” and the “Water Hemisphere.” The “equator” of this hemispherical division is a circle that runs south from Baja California to just under Peru, curves across South America and across the Atlantic where it ducks under South Africa, then curves back North to skirt just below Vietnam and Japan before turning South again over the North Pacific. That might not sound like a hemisphere, but it is when you look at a globe; and the “Land Hemisphere,” which is centered on France, contains 81% of Earth’s land, while the “Water Hemisphere,” which is centered just south of New Zealand, contains about 63% of Earth’s water.

Idi Amin spent the last couple of decades of his life in Saudi Arabia. I can’t think of anything that Saudi Arabia has in common with Russia …

I can’t think of anything that Saudi Arabia has in common with Russia …

The prosperity of both seem to have a lot to do with oil exports.

SA is worst off, thier only export is oil, thats why they are desperately trying to diversify, sportswashing, buying games, etc. russia as other resources besides oil.

He is an asset of Trump (more specifically of Rubio) to destabilize Brazil’s democracy. He lost and now he is going to the US to ask asylum. Besides that, he’s a notorious corrupt politician and there are many criminal investigations that will proceed now that he’s close to losing parliamentary protection.

Sounds very similar to Ukraine back then. When Zelensky was voted for president, his biggest opponent was Putins puppet. He fled to Russia within a few days of his election loss.

A community for discussing events around the World

Rules:

  • Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:

    • Post news articles only
    • Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
    • Title must match the article headline
    • Not United States Internal News
    • Recent (Past 30 Days)
    • Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
  • Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think “Is this fair use?”, it probably isn’t. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.

  • Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.

  • Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.

  • Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025

  • Rule 5: Keep it civil. It’s OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It’s NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.

Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to “Mom! He’s bugging me!” and “I’m not touching you!” Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.

  • Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.

  • Rule 7: We didn’t USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you’re posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.

We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.

All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.
