I don’t think a lot of Americans appreciate how much hatred the UK has for Russia. No politician is going to win any votes with a line of let’s cozy up to the Russians.
Regardless everyone in the western world knows that Russia’s word isn’t worth anything. So ultimately these negotiations are nothing but PR stunt and will achieve nothing except possibly pissing off Europe.
