I’m aware of the feature, it’s been around since before I left. I’m saying that it looks functionally like they coded it to be nothing more than a subreddit named for you, in which you’re the only one allowed to post. They may have put some sort of flashy nonsense over the top of it, but that’s pretty much what it is.

This is actually a feature in Reddit for those unaware.

It looks to me like that’s functionally just posting in a subreddit created with your name, in which you’re the only one allowed to post. So creating a community on Lemmy with your name and you as the only authorized poster would serve the same function.

Maybe. Depends on what they do with it. But assuming they have any power on this board at all, it’ll be better that they’re there than if they weren’t. It’s not like Linux Foundation “keeping their hands clean” is going to help anything other than optics.

More likely, it’s calculated. The Linux Foundation probably did the math and realized that they could either participate in it, or watch Google run it themselves, packing the board with sycophants and leaving it with no real oversight.

This way, there’s actually a trusted nonprofit voice in the room.

Complex stuff (talks, projects, brainstorming, etc): The notes get taken on paper. Some things stay there, because the act of writing them down is enough. Some things then move to my “second brain;” for personal stuff, that’s currently on Notion (I’m contemplating migrating it to Obsidian or something similar). For work stuff, that’s a Slack thread, or (if it’s really important) Confluence.

Todos go into Google Tasks. I used to use Todoist, but I got frustrated by how inflexible the notification system was.

Shopping lists (and a few other similar lists that need to be shared) go into Google Keep.

20 years ago it would have been DVDs. But even before that, we didn’t call them "VHS"es. We called them tapes, or video tapes if we wanted to distinguish from audio tapes.

Well, gerrymandering is still a thing, but anyway it would be like adding another California to the US, electorally. The populations are pretty close. And actually, the less-populous provinces are a little more conservative (the truckers protesting covid restrictions were canadians, remember), so actually maybe each individual province being added as a state would work in Trump’s favor.

Not that he’s thought any of that through, of course.

You may want to switch to Tenacity. Audacity was purchased by a company in 2021 that super promises not to try to sneak telemetry into the program. Again. For the third time.

Tenacity is a fork of Audacity without any of that nonsense.

This whole charade is pointless. We are not talking about a rational human.

Back in the middle ages, the code of chivalry came to basically be a gentlemen’s agreement between nobles which was generally adhered to even in times of war: “hey, there aren’t very many of us, so kill all the peasants you want but try to just capture and ransom the nobles.”

I wonder if there’s a similar agreement among the 1% today.
