I mean I have both, but you better bring your wallet if you want to PC game. Especially as of late.
I just left windows for Linux. With all the new development it’s pretty great.
We shouldn’t take for granted how open and customizable PC gaming is. If things had gone the way Microsoft wanted we’d be paying a monthly online subscription for games with P2P matchmaking and every single one would need to be purchased and installed through the restrictive and utterly useless Xbox store.
I mean, they’ve been trying it since gen 7, I don’t know how it’s a major surprise to anyone who has any interest in console gaming
Anywho, as someone who was primarily a console gamer when I was a kid, getting a gaming PC was probably the best gaming investment I’ve made; the experience is just way better in every way
I kinda hope consoles will just die.
Because half of what’s making PC games such unoptimized shit is that game developers develop for console first, then do a shitty unoptimized port for the PC version. “Just run it through a compatibility layer! Why not a full-blown emulator? PCs have more performance than consoles, so they can handle it! If they don’t like gaming at 1080p 12fps, they should just upgrade to dual 5090s! It runs fine on our dev’s $20,000 workstation!”
If they built the game for PC in the first place, about half of the optimization problems and egregiously bad performance in new releases could be alleviated.
(Only half, though. We still need to contend with rushed delivery schedules that make optimization something devs don’t have time for, sheer laziness, and now AI slop in the code as well.)
I mean, the only thing keeping them alive is honestly the fact they’re sold as a loss. If they ever for whatever reason stop doing that, they will probably just die, cause otherwise they’re just worse than getting a regular computer =w=
Though with the price increases and with the decline of AAA quality they might just die despite that, who knows
Steam machines are going to finish consoles off in about 5 years.
I mean… I’d definitely rather have a steam machine over a ps5… the general public from what I’ve seen haven’t had the best opinions on it tho. I suppose it’s to be seen how it shakes out long(er) term
I grew up with a PC so it always seemed normal to me, I guess I was lucky that way. I’m honestly surprised that Sony didn’t announce this at the launch of the ps5. Console always seemed nerfed to me.
To be honest, I think they were potentially planning or wanting to only go with the digital-only ps5, but after seeing backlash to the idea they went with both the diskless and disk-drive ps5’s to “test the waters” as it were. There’s been a few digital only consoles like the psp go, and the diskless xbox one s, but those as far as I remembered underperformed in terms of sales numbers. If the digital-only ps5 sold well enough or if they observed a general trend of people buying digital on the ps5 it could’ve been the deciding factor that has made them more confident in going forward with it
Maybe it’s time to petition politicians in jurisdictions like the EU and Brazil where third-party app stores are legally mandated for mobile platforms to stop exempting game consoles from this regulation. If Sony were forced to allow Steam/Epic/GoG on the PS6, it would make the platform a lot more consumer friendly.
“Cyberpunk is cheaper on PS5 than PC due to secondary market”
Literally free on PC.
The JP-only PS5 model is 350USD new, the non-digital international one is 650. I kinda wonder if Sony is fine with losing the people who aren’t basically captive if it means they can milk the ones who are going to buy no matter what due to price insensitivity.
~10% of consumers represent 50% of consumer spending, and as this increases, business models that fleece the wealthy and completely exclude the poor become more competitive while spending money developing a product most people want and can afford less, as “most people” can afford much less than the top end.
Ruh-roh. You’re gonna hate steam.

I really don’t get this outrage thing. Outrage because all eggs become expensive? Yes, because they are close to essential, or at least very important for a lot of people’s diet, and they all get more expensive. Outrage for some game platform shenanigans? Don’t give them your fucking money.
People’s priorities are all fucked up. Even on this site.
I mean, the main use of optical discs is to rip them in a HDD.
If you look, the same user has been flooding this space with game disc agitprop for at least the last day. This space is only tangentially related to gaming so why here and why so much? I can’t decide if they’re just passionate or working towards a goal.
