Between China and the US I’d currently be less worried about visiting China. And I’m a white dude who has bashed the CCP online plenty.

Gamers.
He targeted gamers.

Fairly sure children in Germany can have beer at home too (SOME of them), but this one is a toddler lol

Gotta have that emergency döner

Lol our far right praises everything Trumpler does. And there are also pedo suspicions about some members of the family running the far-right party in my country.
They haven’t been able to get enough power to go full Hitler, but all they really need is a few good crises. They want to get rid of all LGBT and POC too. Funnily enough they don’t want to ruin the welfare state though, unlike the liberals.

Uh we have our own far-right problem plus many people just don’t care about foreign politics.

They’re actually afraid of being called nazis, so they have to side with the so-called Jewish state lest Netanyahu claims they’re holocausting again
It’s ridiculous because it seems even most Jewish people don’t support Israel anymore.

So there’s different definitions of the word. In my language, there’s two separate words. There’s the more political one that has Europe and Asia separate, but the Americas together and then the one that more accurately reflects geography, where the Americas are two continents, but Eurasia is one.

If you have 0 issues and aren’t bored with it either, keep using it. It’s completely fine.
People often have various reasons for not using it. E.g they want more up-to-date packages so they go with a rolling release distro, or they want to use a different package manager, or they want an immutable distro. Mint is just a generalist distro that works fine for most people, but doesn’t excel at any particular thing. Same as Ubuntu LTS, but with a nicer UI and less commercialization, so I see it as a great alternative to Ubuntu LTS. Ubuntu non-LTS may be more up to date though.

I distrohop every now and then, but usually when I have a convincing argument for it. Anyone want to try to convince me to switch either of my computers (one on Tumbleweed and one on NixOS) to Bazzite?

I’ll take a look. Arr!

Hey, that’s actually pretty interesting, thank you!

Agreed on her not being responsible for the sins of her grandfather, but it’s kinda fucked up that her grandfather was allowed to keep ruling after WWII, rather than being replaced by a family member or something.

There’s also the “each step of the food chain requires 10x more initial input energy” issue with predators. Here is mostly why we eat the animals we eat
Can aphantasia grow worse with age? Because I swear I used to be like 2 as a kid and now I’m also around a 3.5.

China will pick up the slack, don’t worry

Oh I agree. If encryption becomes illegal I may actually move to another freaking continent. I have nothing to hide, but I am still not willing to compromise on privacy and security.

While we have problems here in Europe and they’re concerning, the US really has this shit on a whole 'nother level. The NSA more or less has ALL the data that enters or exits the country and probably most of what goes around public networks (so just about any ISP) within the country. Your Lemmy instance is hosted in France and from your comment I infer that you’re American (so likely situated in the US), so most likely the communication between you and the instance is all recorded and stored at 33 Thomas Street. They’re just storing everything so they can decrypt it if quantum computing breaks existing algorithms. Then there’s all the tooling the CIA and NSA have built to spy on everyone who has any even somewhat insecure smart device.
Denmark is trying to legislate all this into happening, the US just ignores legislation when something actually disagrees with their spying
Luckily you guys have land borders. Unluckily they might start patrolling them for people escaping too.
