I mean, the only thing keeping them alive is honestly the fact they’re sold as a loss. If they ever for whatever reason stop doing that, they will probably just die, cause otherwise they’re just worse than getting a regular computer =w=

Though with the price increases and with the decline of AAA quality they might just die despite that, who knows

Xbox is already being discontinued entirely. Nintendo is off on their own, doing Nintendo things and not really competing with traditional ‘consoles’ anymore. (With Nintendo, it’s more about playing Nintendo’s own games, which are basically all exclusives. And nobody’s buying a Switch 2 to play games that aren’t Switch 2 exclusive. Maybe you’ll play a few cross-platform games on it if you already have one, but nobody is buying a Switch for that. You buy a Switch because you want to play the latest Pokemon, Mario, or Zelda, and that’s the only way you can play them.)

Playstation is the only traditional console still in operation. And they’re getting quite expensive. And they’re making decisions that are very unpopular with consumers. And, for the most part, their exclusives aren’t exactly ‘must haves’. It’s getting really difficult to justify buying a Playstation versus buying a budget gaming PC. (After all, the PC has a lot of ‘exclusives’ of its own – games that the Playstation will never have access to. And it does all the computer things, too.)

I do actually think consoles are on their way out. Playstation will probably die within the next decade as well, which will leave Nintendo the only one left standing, the final victor of the Console Wars. But since Nintendo relies so heavily on exclusives, they’re not going to be competing very much with PC gaming. And maybe game developers will finally stop developing for console first, instead developing for PC first, and then maybe considering porting it to Switch 3 if it looks financially feasible.

I mean… I’d definitely rather have a steam machine over a ps5… the general public from what I’ve seen haven’t had the best opinions on it tho. I suppose it’s to be seen how it shakes out long(er) term
