I ride a bicycle everywhere and occasionally take public transport. Other than higher prices for goods and maybe higher per kilowatt hour for energy usage, this will not hit me as hard as others. I’ve lost 25 lbs in the past 3 months just from cutting back on treats and snacks because $. I’ve got about 40lbs of pure fat still banked to sustain me before the worst of it. I can’t fathom how people paying for cars + gas are going to live with this, especially in areas without public transportation.

Iran really should assassinate the leaders of the Saudis and UAE. Patience is a virtue, just get the pieces in place, and wait.

Just because someone else will take their place doesn’t mean it’s useless, that logic would make killing any leader worthless, which is not the case at all.

The royal families of both the Saudis and the UAE are legitimate, and valuable targets for the Iranians to hit. If they don’t, then it will just encourage future harm against their country.

It really worked so well for the US killing the leader of Iran. Basically won them the war in one stroke. /s

We have an obvious and pertinent example of a decapitation strike on political leadership not being a particularly good strategy from a military standpoint. Iran seems to be conducting itself much in a much less emotionally reactive way than this, so I doubt we’ll see it unless they really are falling apart internally and are just trying to lash out in revenge on their way down.

You could also end up with less extreme leaders. When you already have extremist fascist genocidal psychopaths running the show, you’re saying that maybe there will be another extremist fascist genocidal psychopath taking their place.

Ok? I’ll take that chance then because if it doesn’t change anything then let’s keep killing them as they pop up until we get one that isn’t an extremist fascist genocidal psychopath anymore.

In truth, there is only one thing bullies understand, and losing an amount of money isn’t it in this case.

I really find your argument incredible.

Interestingly I’ve seen some claims that it is possible Saudi Arabia failed to aid Tariq Saleh’s National Resistance Forces not from incompetence but rather due to not wanting to lift a finger for a proxy that had a lot of lingering UAE influence. The NRF was a lot more independent minded than the Saudi backed militias and did awkward things like cozying up to the UAE-backed STC (South Yemen separatists) after the STC basically rolled the recognized government of Yemen’s forces in much of former South Yemen… which would have been great for the NRF if things stayed that way but by like a month later the Saudis had booted out the UAE and dissolved the STC entirely.

Compare these unfortunately blurry maps from before and after the offensive, the NRF is the one in blue in the before picture.

Doesn’t seem like a great time for backstabbing and scheming but having a fragmented opposition has been a tremendous headache to the Saudis throughtout this war so I guess if it’s annoying enough… but Ansar Allah has like three quarters of Yemen’s population so they’re hefty (almost up there with the population of Saudi Arabia)

Truly, but Trump is not going to stop. His regime has already identified their next targets: Cuba, Panama, Greenland, Canada… We are all going to suffer - but when and how much? Outside of MAGA and Israel, nobody wanted this shit but it still happened. If the closure of the straits leads to the end of Trump’s plans, it’s still ‘good for the rest of the world’ in that it is preferable to a Trump win.

This is forever war, hotter or colder, Israel won’t let it die, they will keep it going for domestic political reasons. And they have video of our politicians and business leaders fucking children, so the US is their bitch.

If the closure of the straits leads to the end of Trump’s plans

Oh, absolutely, I’m just not sure it will. On one hand, his constituents could see him as ineffective and withdraw their support, but previous experience tells us this is unlikely. On the other hand, economical hardships historically tend to increase support for the far right. And while the military needs fuel, there is no realistic scenario in which the US cannot source enough to continue the war.

There is no doubt that it would be better for humanity if the USA were not fascist and were not trying to shake down the entire world. But they are, and they are. Our choices seem to be global economic devastation or literal WW3. The USA has to be stopped because Shitler ain’t gonna stop himself. If Iran and the Houthis can undo Trump by squeezing the economy, i think it’s better than global conflict. There will be terrible repercussions either way, but I still think WW3 would be worse. If this view seems ‘edgy’, it’s because you are more optimistic about what is in store for the world were the USA to succeed in its current aggression against Iran.

The brutal battering of vulnerable economies is Trump’s exact intention. He started that process before he attacked Iran. You can’t view this war in isolation: he is starving Cuba, robbing Venezuela, threatening the rest of NATO…

We can’t avoid the bad outcomes of American aggression; they are upon us. Stopping Trump would be the only ‘good’ outcome at this point - I think that is what the previous poster meant by ‘good for the rest of the world.’

It’s like how amputation and chemotherapy is ‘good’ for a cancer patient if it saves their life.
