I had an involuntary wellness check once.
During the whole thing I kept thinking, “If I make a play for his gun, he’d have to shoot me, right?”
This in another long line of reasons you shouldn’t send a poorly trained man with a gun to do a wellness check.
I had these very strong thoughts as well. Thankfully my concern that others might get injured in the fallout overrode it.
Cant even trust these mfers to get a point blank shot right anymore ffs smh
Had to send my sister off for a 72 hour hold yesterday. Cops and I showed up at the same time, I let them in and then they just kinda stood around and watched me handle it until medics arrived lmao
Fucking Sheriff standing there asking some random dude “what should we do about the animals?” Don’t you have a procedure for this???
Yeah dude they shoot them
Isnt the second post an example of a cop being well prepared? I mean isnt it an actual tactic to say something surprising/stupid/whatever to get someone to snap out of a meltdown?
I dont even think it was stupid i think bro was trying his best given no training and the circumstance. You see it all the time in bodycam footage they often dumb stuff down to the level of a parent scolding a kid. The cop was trying to sympathize while also pointing out hey this isn’t a great solution without coming off as you can’t do that because i said so or pretending to know whats going on in their head. Just straight to the point this isn’t a great idea.
It didn’t snap them out of the meltdown. That’s not how any of this works. It would be like asking somebody eating ice cream if we can agree that ice cream is bad. People who are suicidal are rarely under the impression that those around them would be worse off if they were gone. Asking somebody who has convinced themselves that killing themselves would be a good thing this question is out of touch with the situation at best.
Thats my point though. Asking someone suicidal if killing themselves is bad is a nonsensical ridiculous question. In this case it made the OOP stop crying (and maybe spiraling, we dont know).
It is, the question is if it was intentional.
Based on every interaction I’ve ever had with a police officer (with one, very specific, exception), it was not intentional.
