Here is the thing I don’t think the Trump will try to occupy Iran, I just think ground troops might be used to destroy parts of it more thoroughly.
They’re going to continue their bombing over the summer; they will send in some boots who will get absolutely destroyed, 100’s maybe thousands. Then they will drop a nuke right before the mid-terms claiming it was to save American lives (the same line they used in ww2 with Japan). If I understand things correctly airborn troops are specialized in mobilizing quickly whether that be literally parachuting or not.
Sure, but after they land they’re in the middle of the mountains. Iran is very rugged terrain. Thry can parachute into where they need to be but they’re not going far or getting a supply line.
Any rapid deployed group requires logistics and support to maintain their position. D-Day succeeded because the airborne troops only had to hold for a few days until the link up with the Normandy beach forces could reach them.
Market garden failed because that linkup failed to reach them. The British in particular lost a lot of troops.
The other 2 gulf wars took months to build up material. I have no idea what build up there is now, but Iran is twice the size of Iraq. Lot of angry people there to greet the US
