Wow that was a really good speech, and everything he says is true!
Yes France was right all along, we need an EU military army and military cooperation.
I personally now have to admit that I was wrong on that point.France is the same as the US, just a few years behind.
This stupid senator is part of a party led by I anti-ecology, homophobic islamophobic dumbass, they just all want to do like Trump, just in their own time and version.
Opposing the US is just about taking advantage of the situation to say “look, I am reasonable, unlike them” and has nothing to do with what they think.
Where are you getting the anti ecology and the far right racism from?
It sounds like you’re describing the Regroupement Nationale of Lepen, but this is the Les Indépendants party, which is center right by France’s standards - it’s basically a party aligned with Elizabeth Warren’s views.
In this super propagandized environment we’re in, i find comments like this deplorable (if not dangerous)… Unless it’s an honest mistake?
This speech reflected nothing that is like Trump.
He defends EU (the closest alliance France is in) This is contrary to how Trump behaves towards allies.
He also strongly defends democracy, also very contrary to how Trump behaves.Being afraid of something that is evidently harmful and dangerous is not a phobia.
So the only thing remaining is that he may be homophobic, which is irrelevant in this context. And yes he absolutely sounds a lot more reasonable than Trump.
France is the same as the US, just a few years behind.
they just all want to do like Trump
Give me examples of his homophobia.
Do you all disagreeing with @Solumbran keep track of French politics long-term? I mean, in each new election, the far-right is closer to winning. And Macron, despite being really good now for international politics (I’m truly greatful for that, it’s sorely needed) is doing pretty shitty things on the national level. France stands on the good side of history now, but so did the US not long ago. The balance in France is fragile, just like in many other European countries, sadly.
I’ve lived in France for over 6 years, albiet most of those years homeless. One thing I’ve learned of the French people is that they’ll NEVER be satisfied with their politicians. Even if a politician were to just stand and breath air, a Frenchman would find something wrong with it.
So I have some grasp of the shortcomings of French politicians. I also have some grasp on the shortcomings of how the French people like to portray their politicians. So I ask a simple question; are there examples of this particular politician expressing homophobic, anti-gay sentiments?
IMHO islamophobia is a trend that people tend to use to shut people up. They also forget that France has been regularly attacked by muslim terrorists since the 80s/90s. All the muslims I know don’t care about that crap and they live their lives like everyone else. You wouldn’t even know they are muslims.
It is the new generation that is offended every five minutes because, for some reason, France don’t like seeing traditional religious clothes from the middle ages all over the place, which comes from the catholic church that ruled with an iron fist until the revolution (and for an additional century from French people who were still deep into the sadistic teachings of the church).
