They will try again in a bunch a months.

That’s how the right wing nutjobs do it in Europe. Just keep proposing referendums until one passes and then if you don’t like the outcome just hold another and another until you get your way.

The Americans at least appear to be very incompetent at subverting their allies elections. Seems to amount to a ket addled Elon Musk on video stream ranting about replacement theory.

It’s not like they were neutrally phrased.

“Do you want Alberta to be able to lower immigration back down to sustainable levels”

      Like, come on.

I mean, they raised immigration up to non-sustainable levels in the first place, so why shouldn’t they be able to lower their immigration back again? Other than rank incompetence, of course.

I feel like it’s possible the separation question was a distraction so people weren’t talking about the other questions.

I do l’t think the other 9 questions needed a referendum either. The government isn’t restricted from pursuing any of the things it listed. It was just window dressing for the separation question.

Now peeps some of the more reflective of the bunch can think about why they were so convinced they were going to win the vote. What and who manipulated them? There was never the support, it wasn’t a media conspiracy, or the CBC working for Trudeau.

Voter fraud will be the conclusion by the most brainwashed of the cult members.

      Daylight time didn’t pass.

Removing equalization payments passed -I guess they already forgot 2020 oil prices.

Anti-immigration passed, Alberta ICE , ICE, baby -across three questions.

Senate abolition passed -I’m cool with that. Elect a Senate or GTFO.

I strongly doubt most voters understood the big words in those questions.

The US confederacy has spent decades ensuring their entire political process heavily favors that very very dumb 1/4 of the people.

Keep in mind this was a non binding vote to have a binding vote on the issue later on. According to the polls the number of people who said they’d vote yes to hold the binding but would vote no in the actual vote if it was held was quite large. Then there’s the fact that we can be certain almost all the seperatists voted since this realistically is the only chance to get what they want and consider that only a third of eligible voters voted. Them only getting 25% under those conditions means their actual support is vanishingly small.

This is why it’s up to everyone to vote. If you refrain from voting, thinking that your outcome is guaranteed, you’re essentially letting an opposing vote count for two.

I don’t know why anyone takes the civil war / secession-obsessed people seriously.

It’s a small, loud minority that thinks it’s a majority because they mainline algorithmically-content all day, every day. That holds true in Canada and here in the US.

They’re a bunch of fucking clowns.

I mean, just look at Brexit.

You take these things seriously because they can have adverse consequences, and that minority may not be as much of a minority as you might think.

If you’re in a room and a quarter of the people in that room want to burn the room down, do you not take them seriously because it’s only a quarter of the room?

a civil war is a militarized conflict. It requires entire groups of people grabbing guns or explosives or other arms and being willing to kill someone else for being on the wrong side. If no one in canada was arming up and murdering people for being on a different side then of course not.
