Marinating your brain in cortisol is such a bad idea. It’ll take decades off your life and leave you well and fucked when you’re old, ask me how I know. Get medication. Right now, go.

About to go on prescription meds for ADHD for the first time since I was 8 years old. Hoping it helps with my executive dysfunction more than anything. I’m tired of knowing what needs to be done but being unable to start the task until the absolute last second.

My caffeine abuse was so bad that I was surpassing the FDA recommended maximum daily intake dosage. Got those numbers down thankfully. Also haven’t had anger issues since I was a kid but yeah it tracks how accurate this post is lol. ADHDers rawdogging life are caffinated and angry.

Adderall. I was on Clonidine for the last week, which is a non-stimulant, but other than having the lovely side effect of lowering my blood pressure, it didn’t do anything to alleviate my symptoms.

When I was a kid I was on Dexedrine and it really did help me focus more in school. My parents took me off of it when my grades and behavior in class improved and by that point I think I had matured enough to be able to keep a lid on the worst aspects of it on my own - there was a lot of social pressure to “be normal” and I think that contributed a lot to me masking up and pretending I was just like everybody else, but the symptoms of ADHD I had continually experienced all throughout life like being extremely messy and disorganized, having a generally poor memory, and being extremely fidgety and unable to sit still until my late adolescence were chalked up to just personality flaws, things that I could improve on my own if I just worked at them a bit more. To an extent, I could, but it took constant vigilance to maintain it.

Still waiting for the pharmacy to fill my prescription. Apparently they need several layers of pre-approval and authorization in order to actually hand over the Adderall. Not surprising, but still a little frustrating that the months-long journey to get to this point where I might finally start to get my shit together is being delayed by bureaucratic red tape again.

I see. I’ve heard Vyvanse is good for executive dysfunction, thabks to its mechanism of release. I use Ritalin which just turns you into a productivity machine, and it kinda plows through the ED a bit less elegantly

No caffeine, just sheer power of anger.👌

But jokes aside, not exactly anger but rather a perhaps obsessive need to get my problems solved.

It’s really not, AFAICT. I’ve lost nearly everything to doing exactly that for most of my life, and am fervently trying to rebuild and regain any sense of hope that I’ll have enough time to give a shit (ie. precursor to joy from my efforts) before civilization decays beyond recognition. 🥲

^ Me until/unless the 500th milligram joins the party and happens to be in time to join the OG molecule while its half life hasn’t finished.

Yeah, for me it normalizes a little, but definitely doesn’t make me hyper or jittery unless I drink it really strong and non-stop all morning. Only the Adderall really does a good job at giving me a little executive function. The coffee just gives me a slight additional boost to multitasking functionality I need for my job. And the Adderall keeps that multitasking from becoming extreme distraction…sort of. Still wish there were better meds, but I haven’t found any and I’m afraid to switch it up too much and end up not being able to do my job. Especially with all the layoffs that they told us would be supplemented with LLM “AI” but really just mean everyone is insanely overloaded with work.

With my health, I’m not allowed any stimulants. I don’t have any directives not to consume caffeine, but I wouldn’t consume large amounts. It’s one of the reasons I gave up looking for work and just said fuck it and took disability. The US has been against my health all of my life, so fuck it, I’m done fighting.

That sucks. But I get it. If I had the disability option earlier in life I may have taken it. But I didn’t know I was Autistic or ADHD or any of the other stuff. I just thought I was lazy and a bad person. And in a small town in the US it would have meant being stuck with no public transportation or enough money to really survive. I was unhoused for a bit, but got lucky an ex invited me to a city rent free for a month that I was able to find more steady work. It sucked, but I got through and ended up getting by at least until I eventually found a supportive partner to help me through the gaps. But things could definitely have turned out way different without the generosity of people around me. I hope life treats you better in the future.

Helps me poop on my schedule, and its calming at 5am when checking emails with a hot cup of black coffee and no one in the office yet

I got tired of the side-effects years ago and also stopped. A lot can be improved by proper sleep, exercise, and diet, but it’s a lot of work for a lesser effect.

Careful now. This isn’t quite the fix long term. It could be argued that it just tamps it down deeper until ‘they’ explode in a great big fiery ball of incandescent rage the moment they prang their car in a shopping centre. Turns out that long term you really do need to dream at night.
