I setup pihole and jellyfin on it and currently I’m working on a creative webrevival personal website to host on it.

you can also turn older mac devices into home servers pretty easily, one of my most used personal devices is a 2012 macbook pro running kali linux.
to be clear its still a macbook so its slow as fuck and overheats all the time but i dont have money so it works

how did you handle the heat dissipation and the battery capacity depression?
i ask because i’m considering doing the same thing.
as long as you arent pushing it too had a wire rack or one of the laptop cooling plates work well but i am not sure what would be best if you are pushing harder than that
and i pretty much constantly kept it plugged in when it was online so battery capacity was not a major concern for my use case.
it would be public facing so the loads seem to come at random when bot nets try to brute force their way in from time to time – i have no control over it.
i dont know how to manage a public server but for a little home lab server it worked half decent
Go in and repaste the cpu, dust out the fan and see if you can remove the battery and still have the thing run before you do this.
the last time i took apart a laptop, it wouldn’t work again when i put it back together so i’m not going to tempt fate again. lol
You should not use a laptop as a server in that case.
Lithium batteries in laptops can degrade in a way that builds up a significant amount of flammable hydrogen gas. It explodes!
Even if there is no catastrophe, the computer will run slowly and get hot because its old thermal paste isn’t doing enough to keep the cpu cool.
