If we ignore the useless traditions around marriage and won’t feed this overpriced industry. It’s completely possible to get married rather cheaply and it will not effect the marriage.
I’m fairly sure that this particular marriage will last longer and be much better than many of the ones that spend completely insane amounts or even worse go into dept to get married.
The generous take might be that they’re just being realistic and blunt about marriage: historically and even in many modern social contexts, marriage is more an expression of resource security/stability than an expression of love.
It’s not how we like to talk about marriage–the motivations, values, and ideals that make marriage meaningful… But sociologically, security/stability typically plays a pretty big role.
