President Donald Trump says the United States Navy will begin blockading the Strait of Hormuz “immediately” after peace talks between the US and Iran in Pakistan ended without an agreement.
Trump, in a social media post on Sunday, accused Iran of “extortion” and said the US Navy would hunt down and interdict ships in international waters that have paid Iran a toll to traverse the strait.
“So, there you have it, the meeting went well, most points were agreed to, but the only point that really mattered, NUCLEAR, was not,” Trump said. “Effective immediately, the United States Navy, the Finest in the World, will begin the process of BLOCKADING any and all Ships trying to enter, or leave, the Strait of Hormuz.”
Iran has essentially taken control over the Strait of Hormuz, a vital chokepoint for the global energy market, since the US and Israel launched a war on Iran on February 28.
Traffic through the narrow strait has slowed to a trickle, nearly paralysing about one-fifth of the world’s oil and liquefied natural gas shipments and sending shockwaves through the global economy.
Iran has denied US claims that two of its warships recently passed through the strait for mine-clearing operations, warning that any military vessels seeking to do so would receive a “strong response”. Trump called Iran’s control over the waterway “world extortion” in his social media post and added that any Iranian forces who fire at US forces or “peaceful vessels” would be “BLOWN TO HELL”.
He added that the blockade would involve unspecified “other countries” and he would not allow Iran to benefit from the closure of the strait.
Iran has continued to send its own ships through the strait since the war began and has allowed a handful of vessels from other countries to pass through. Iranian officials have also discussed setting up a toll system after the fighting ends whereby users would pay a fee to Iran for traversing the strait.
“I have also instructed our Navy to seek and interdict every vessel in International Waters that has paid a toll to Iran,” Trump said on Sunday. “No one who pays an illegal toll will have safe passage on the high seas.”

I’ve been reading these articles for about an hour now trying to figure out the plan. So, Iran blockades the straight and disrupts trade but starts letting some ships through and may be requiring toll payments. Not good but slightly better than nothing. The goal is to open the straight so the global economy doesn’t completely melt and the solution is to blockade all traffic in the straight? The means all traffic from US allies and adversaries. Now, the straight is being blockaded by essentially the US and Iran so no ships go through at all. What’s the plan? Keep it closed for what purpose? Does Trump think the US can ramp up oil, natural gas, and refining to plug the hole in the energy market? Is that the plan? I can’t see anything else making sense.
Take away Iran’s ability to control who continues to receive oil from the gulf region.
Reduce Iran’s ability to monetize passage through the straight.
Reduce Iran’s ability to make money from its oil production.
Encourage other countries to increase pressure on Iran to agree to US terms.
Not saying it’s a good idea, but the thinking behind it seems obvious.
The American demands weren’t accepted. Trump didn’t like making concessions, so he’s thrown the toys from the cot. This tweet or whatever it is him thinking he has the final say.
Honestly I think the plan is the opposite, and what has been happening the last few weeks is all a part of it.
He doesn’t want to make things easier for anyone. He’s actively making things worse for literally the entire world. The first blockade basically stopped all trade and agriculture for pretty much the entire world. There’s no way for other countries to get the fuel or fertilizer they need to grow the rest of the world’s crops or other goods. He’s actively tanking the world economy by blockading the Strait, jacking up oil prices for absolutely everyone so the billionaires get even more billions.
It’s so goddamn transparent that I’m surprised anyone is still questioning anything he does at this point. It’s literally all to help the other billionaires.
There’s also a strain of fascist eugenics in the Trump regime, which believes only those who are “superior” deserve to live. Harming everyone else is, in their mind, a way to encourage inferior people to die off. Many of their policy decisions make more sense when you recognize that they think most people dying would be a good thing.
You want more people on team Iran? Cause that’s a great way to do it.
And Putin. Don’t forget his puppetmaster.
Trump has said, multiple times now, thst everyone should just buy oil from us, and Venezuela, which I guess is just our vassal state.
Thats where his head is at.
He either doesn’t comprehend or doesn’t care that there are different kinds of oil, produced in different places, that can only be refined into certain other things, at certain places.
He is doing a mafia shakedown of the entire planet.
Because… if the petrodollar falls… our entire financial and monetary system collapse in fairly short order.
And that… well that hurts him personally.
He’s the opposite of complicated: a greedy narcissistic demon.
