Yep, I know that for myself. But I can’t switch away from github as that is where the huge company I work for has its stuff - and it needs convincing the enterprises, not the individuals.

Personally I just have my own repos which I can move anywhere in an eyeblink. But it takes political power to. move governments, departments and companies.

For example I have no way to ditch Teams or Outlook, because that’s the accounts my employer set up. I can’t ditch my RSA hardware token, because that’s what my. employer’s customer uses. I can’t ditch. my work phone as only Samsung and Apple are vetted.

That’s something that needs to change on a pan-europrean level.

Migrating cloud servers to European hosters. Give EU money to improve/build a linux desktop. Use that desktop in government, schools, universities… (instead of Windows). Fork Firefox. Host fediverse services and use them where the governments use Twitter / TikTok / Insta.

Harder: Mandate for mobile phones with a user installable OS (Cyanogen etc.) Force tech companies to provide total transparency about data usage. Cancel any safe harbor agreements.

In the end, everything the Open Source crowd wished for.

Btw, I’d have no issues with American / Russian / China hosted open source stuff when we can review what it does. Ah, ok, a “european code review agency” might be a thing.

We need our own tech stack, that is at least verifyable. It’s due time to kick out the American tech giants from government projects etc.

With America possibly becoming the new Russia it is just not safe to rely on Microsoft, Apple, Aws etc.

We need an Europan open source stack.

I personally absolutely agree of getting rid of that shit. I just said there are big hurdles, and you need to do so in a very organized and based on proof way.

You can’t just outlaw them because you don’t like them, that doesn’t work. Germany having laws against hate speech doesn’t mean there’s not also a law about freedom of expression in the Grundgesetz.

You need to prove them to be against democracy in a watertight way. That’s what I mean with not willy-nilly.

Quite contrary, we have a big problem censoring Nazi speech.

We have some very specific rules when something can be censored and when it can’t - and the far right has quite some training in “just not saying that, maybe only implicating it a little”.

So any legal action outlawing then needs to rest on really solid legal basis or it will fail. Such a failure would be the propaganda the right wishes for.

Consequently they are always just shy of openly saying things but implying them. Like having election posters where their politicians can say “No we’re not showing a Hitler salute in that image, we were just miming a roof of a house over a bunch of kids”

Sometimes a single politician gets caught with doing something too far, but then (of course) the whole party acts like they are shocked.

It may be different in the US, but where I grew up, topless sunbathing is quite a thing and I even saw a lot of boobs in shower soap commercials at 6pm on public TV as a kid. When my kids were babies, my (now ex-) wife would also just nurse them on a park bench - which also I isn’t unusual.

I was not breastfed as well (as couldn’t even digest my mother’s milk), still I like boobs very much. I find them very beautiful - and also like different forms and sizes.

I only don’t like boobs with silicone implants, they’re not soft and cuddly.

I switched over to have water delivered to my home in glass bottles (fortunately multi-use glass bottles are still a thing here in Germany). It tastes so much better than the same brand from PET bottles.

(Why don’t I drink tap water? Because I want my water sparkling with CO2 bubbles, and I don’t like the simple carbonaton appliance)

The greatest - I don’t know. The most recent I used: I have this box of instant dark cocoa powder I bought around 5 years ago or so and it’s best before Sep 2023. I had a nice cup of hot cocoa with whiskey last night.

I agree with the last statement at about a 70% level. The last 30% missing is - like you can’t tickle yourself, there’s some sensations that are different just because another person does them to you.

I’m not anti relationship, it’s just when viewing sex alone a lot of the things I experienced with someone else are just overrated. With very very few exceptions when I met humans with extremely high emotional intelligence.

But maybe in the end that’s all a discussion, that we all are generally bad in knowing and communicating what feels good for each other.

Yeah, people also say how old cars were better than modern ones, but that’s only driven by the fact that all the broken ones are scrapped for a long time now. In fact, modern cars have much longer lifespans than the old rust buckets.
