I thought doubting God was a sin and I’d go to hell if I died with doubt in my heart, so I avoided atheist material out of fear that it was Satan working through them to tempt me to doubt.

But eventually I just couldn’t resist, and figured the atheist arguments would clearly be false, and God’s truth or whatever would show through and then I could always refer to that event to shake any doubts.

The first video I watched was a debate between a pastor and Christopher Hitchens.

Absolutely shook my faith to the core. For a couple days afterward, no matter how I tried to twist it, I couldn’t find the fault in Hitchens arguments.

After that, I began to research the history of Christianity with a more open mind, and it became clear what a shit show the whole thing was. I became agnostic, and I suppose in a way I still am a bit, in the sense that the existence of reality itself is quite puzzling, but I can say with certainty that no religion on earth has any answers toward that end.

Just want to mention DavinciBox, which makes installing Davinci on any distro a pretty seamless and hands-off affair.

Personally I’d recommend Linux Mint, as you’re likely to have a very positive experience with it.

Fedora hasn’t been all roses for my particular setup either, since they fully dropped X11 in the latest version, but my hardware combo isn’t viable yet with Wayland, ultimately making me land on Linux Mint (which has been pretty dang nice).

I also tried OpenSUSE slowroll before trying Fedora, which I love the concept of, but an update on that seemed to bork my system (second monitor would remain blank upon booting), which made me a bit skeptical of its claims of extra stability over normal Tumbleweed.

I haven’t experienced any friction from DNF, so personally I don’t see it as a con. I just think Fedora has a useful middle ground between new packages and stability.

Fedora is a solid middle ground between Arch and Debian.

Even with the automated testing, Tumbleweed will still sometimes introduce problems with updates. They mitigate the risk of that with Snapper, so you can rollback to a previous state if things get borked.

Personally, though I’ve tried it a few times, I just can’t get on with openSuse distros.

1. Updating is really slow since Zypper does one task at a time, compared to DNF or Apt which can download and install multiple packages at once
2. Updating is particularly slow in the US, since most opensuse servers are in the EU
3. Yast is powerful for enterprise/sysadmins, but is damn clunky to use for everyday normal stuff (IMHO).

I’d honestly just go for Fedora if you want up-to-date packages, perhaps Nobara if you want it more pre-setup for gaming and codecs. It’s much more slick overall.

For those needs, an old used thinkpad off ebay would be pretty ideal. Affordable, well built and reliable. Only downside is I think the smallest model is a 12"

Perhaps a Chromebook known for being compatible with being flashed with Linux?

Apparently Photoshop CC 2017 has a gold rating on winedb, so that could be viable if you are willing to sail the high seas and apply the tweaks for that app listing.

Otherwise I’d stick with Krita, and then GIMP if you find Krita lacking.

True, forgot about them! Only issue with Lems (or at least their boots) is their construction doesn’t lend itself super well to resole-ing (though neither do Vivo’s, really), though I have heard of cobblers doing it by grinding down the existing sole and gluing on a replacement.

The Jim Green Barefoot African Ranger is constructed like a traditional boot, so is easily resoled by any cobbler, but I had to send mine back since they weren’t wide enough for me (they seem to be on the more narrow end of ‘barefoot’ style boots).

But for how affordable lems are, they’re a solid choice and have way more cushion than vivos.

After trying Barefoot style shoes (which usually have much wider than normal toeboxes) I can never go back.

Vivobarefoot shoes are expensive, but pretty high quality and have a great toebox.

Freet are more affordable and often made of recycled material, but some of their designs can be slightly odd looking. They hold up well though, very nice quality from the reviews I’ve seen. They’re made in the UK, I believe.

Splay shoes offer what is essentially wide toebox vans.

There’s tons more though. I’d recommend Anya’s Reviews to narrow down what suits you best, she’s pretty legit in her info from what I’ve seen.

There’s nothing from a user experience currently that makes bluesky bad, it’s just that since it doesn’t seem to actually support decentralization, there’s nothing to stop it from eventually getting just as bad as twitter over time due to profit incentive. Misskey/mastodin are the only microblogging platforms that are truly immune from corporate manipulation and enshittification, which would mean it’s a long term solution (that while imperfect, can only get better).

Huh, you’re right, he has been absent. He still seems to be updating notrack over on his gitlab, so I have to assume he just got bored with videos, or some other aspect of his life took priority. I don’t have a twitter account, so I can’t see if he’s posted there, but hopefully he’s in good spirits and health.

The API debacle got me to leave, I had become fond of Infinity for reddit, and saw there was a fork for Lemmy called eternity.

I implored a sub I modded to join me, likely a handful did.

I like it here much better, I can never go back now.

The drop in replacement is Sublinks, though it hasn’t gotten any commits since augest, so it might be a while.

The most promising potential replacement is Piefed, which is already operational. It’s ahead of Lemmy in some ways, and rougher in others, but the Dev is a chill dude :)
