    🤓 Actually almost all modern clothes irons are made with an aluminium* soleplate now, to minimize corrosion. The soleplate makes up most of the metal content of the iron, and is then coated with a thin layer of non-stick coating like non-stick paint, plastic/polymer, or stainless steel.

      It’s not just to minimize corrosion, it also heats up more quickly and evenly and cools down more quickly. There’s a reason most heatsinks are aluminum, it’s an excellent conductor of heat.

        My computer has some gold in it, but I wouldn’t characterize my computer as ‘gold’. Same way modern irons have almost no iron in them. 🤷
