I have (need) a seedbox and can’t really relate. But if you host it on your server that can perma-run it’s not much different to what I am using.
And just seeding will not guarantee any traffic. I have torrents that I cross-seed with wildly different ratios.
My advice:
See if you are even reachable (port-forward/no cg-nat)
Try to move to a system that can 24/7
Unless your home internet has multi-gigabit upload, you’ll never be able to compete with seedbox users when new uploads drop and everyone is downloading them at the same time. Your seedbox can upload at 10x-100x the rate my home internet can which is why seedbox users capture all the seeding credit on new uploads. Once a file has been out a day or two, the only people downloading are new users or people who aren’t using automation tools like sonarr/radarr which are few and far between.
The tradeoff here is that your seedbox storage capacity several orders of magnitude lower than my 50TB home server, so I can keep these files seeding forever much like the parable about the tortoise and the hare (though without the deeper meaning).
That still involves downloading shit you don’t want just to get ratio. Which is kinda stupid IMO
I’m running 24/7, I’ve got one torrent running for 2 years with a ratio of 10 (and not even a small one) while most things get 0 kB up in even a year.
No? I just download what I want and try to seed it 1:1 (which is hard on private).
Maybe in the beginning you need to do it to build up buffer and not download yourself into a leech-role.
But once (my threshold is about 1:250gb (down/up) in ratio) built up, you can just coast along provided you arent downloading every remux you come across.
And the racing is a serious issue, yes.
BUT even I can’t compete even with my gbit upload because I am limited by HDDs and the serious ratio farmers use SSDs.
If I seed stuff it usually comes out to 2-10 mbps for maybe 2,3,4 minutes and that’s it.
Only the very large (>200GB) torrents are leeched of for longer from me. Probably because so few do continue to seed those behemoths.
I have torrents from a tracker that is particular hard to build ratio on.

So no, a seedbox is not the ultimate cheat you make it out to be.
But it helps circumventing the networking issues :-)
Huh? If you have .692 on a 4 year old torrent, that’s a very good torrent to be seeding by my standards. I recently deleted a bunch of torrents added in 2024-2025 that were on 0.000-0.005 ratio. Almost nobody has downloaded them after me.
Of the ones I’ve downloaded this year, only one 2026 movie has been doing well. All the older stuff is super well seeded AND nobody’s downloading.
