France saw around 1,000 additional deaths last week at the height of its record-smashing heat wave, the country’s public health agency said Sunday, as the head of the World Health Organization warned that Europe is now the fastest-warming continent and needs to do more to protect its citizens.

Temperature records were toppled in several countries on the weekend, wildfires were sparked in Germany and Berlin police used water cannons to cool down the crowds.

Meanwhile, the heat wave slowly moved toward eastern parts of the continent.

Germany marked a new record for the third day in a row with 41.7 degrees Celsius (107 degrees Fahrenheit) in Neißemünde, near the border with Poland, which baked under its new all-time high of 40.5 C (104.9 F). The Czech Republic also experienced its hottest day ever with 41.9 C (107.4 F), up from the previous record of 40.9 degrees Celsius (105.6 F) on Saturday.

Doesn’t help when you repeat it, does it? Or is it boosting your morality compass? Any inferior complexes? But perhaps I am completely out of the case and you are not that kind of a hypocrite, because you never use a car for shopping, visiting friends, or an airplane to travel, only electric buses and trainss. And may be, yes, you eat only regional - everything far away means transportation and hence emissions. And the fact that you using a smartphone, which means resource exploitation and hence large emissions is powered by green energy. Right, moron?

“Yet you partake in it! Curious!”

Oh it’s a troll account. What a blast from the past, those were all the rage back in 2009.

People can limit to make a tiny difference. People can accept that climate change is real and demand change from those who can make an impactful change (i.e. governments and huge corporations). The people OP is calling morons are those who are denying climate change, refuse to help, or engage in some kind of “gotcha” moment on social media with some bullshit take like, “Oh So yOu dOn’T pRoDucE aNy GhG ThEn I GuEsS? HmM, InTeReStIng!!!”

So please, stfu because not only do you produce carbon dioxide, you’re also filling the internet with more stupid than it can handle.

Hi. I don’t know about them or really even care, but I’m vegan, commute via bike and train, and make an active effort to keep my consumption minimal and eco-friendly. Everything they said was about understanding climate change is real/manmade, not how much they personally contribute to it.

Kindly take a metal chopstick, heat it over the stove, and shove it straight up your ass; it’ll be more intellectually stimulating than writing out your drivel.

        (1) Why the hack you are putting your nose in this conflict? (2) Why are you defending somebody, who is calling other people „fucking morons“? (3) You make an active effort? What do you think how many people around you in different ages trying to make an effort at their best in their current situation? A poor person, living in the streets, causes less gas emission than you, so let‘s go and live on the streets. Or don’t you want to leave your comfort zone to really battle climate warming?

Because a) the people they’re calling “fucking morons” are fucking morons and b) so are you, you fucking moron.

I don’t engage at this level anymore, where people show no respect. Many people seem to be dealing with problems in their lives and are looking for an outlet to vent their frustration here. I let myself get caught up in that frustration for a brief moment, but this is silly and a waste of time. Nope, not with me.

I didn’t expect Lemmy to reach this kind of chan-level behavior so quickly. I’m happy to continue a civil discussion, but otherwise I’ll leave it here and delete my previous comment.

The point isn’t to have no impact on the environment because that’s impossible, the only way to do that is to die. The point is to limit emissions at the highest impact areas which are all achieved at the policy level but just in case you feel like a needless ad hominem.

I bike to work, eat vegan for about 9/10 of my meals, drive a used electric when I have to, lend it out when I don’t and live in a city that gets the majority of it’s energy from renewables. I volunteer with habitat for humanity, I donate to local food banks and rewilding efforts. Have at it.

How do you want to achieve sainthood, when you’re not even giving it 100%?!
        Are you even trying?

A hypocrite loser like you shouldn’t even be allowed to have an opinion let alone voice it!

A point missing here is electing politicians who actively hinder development of renewables, which has an impact by magnitudes larger than all these individual decisions.

It’s interesting to see how many ideological people there are on Lemmy, especially how they react when someone points out that their own behavior isn’t necessarily any different. It doesn’t leave me very optimistic about society’s ability to improve.
