Self-hosting adjacent, but you have to watch your jellyfin content somewhere, or connect to your audiobook store… Or even music… what do you guys use for music?

Anyway, Amazon’s firetv stick had a great remote. But sideloading on it comes to an end and it needs replacing. What do you guys have? Anything with a good remote and UI?

Roku is fine I guess. You can install jellyfin, moonlight, playlet and web video caster. Music I’ll just stream songs from playlet, but I assume you can use jellyfin and WVC for local phone stuff

Avoid Roku devices. Roku had an OK remote and decent UI, but the company has thoroughly enshittified it and turned it into an “advertising everywhere all the time” platform. There is a Jellyfin app that works well though.

Roku has WAY LESS ads than Fire TV. Yes I get one on the home screen, off to the side, easily ignored.

It’s true they might add more later. It is pretty much the only corporate strategy these days.

Idk if Apple TV is still no ads. It is usually suggested as the best home streamer.

I use a mini PC with a wireless keyboard and mouse. There are also remote controls for media PCs if you don’t want to use a keyboard and mouse.

I use a Vero V with my TV’s remote via CEC, it’s great, Kodi is awesome and it can look amazing with a good skin

Is Jellyfin FOSS? If not, what is good alternative?

I tried using Kodi, but found it very lacking and far too complicted to use (says the guy porting Linux to his phone for fun, lol)

      Jellyfin FOSS

Github with GPL-2.0. So I guess yea, it is. I used Kodi in the past. But had major issues with the jellyfin plugin. I wouldn’t want to do that again.
