Amnesty International warned on Monday that this summer’s World Cup in the United States, Canada and Mexico risks becoming a “stage for repression”, urging FIFA and host nations to protect rights. FIFA said it aims to ensure all participants feel safe, included and free to exercise their rights.

FIFA has held world cups under 3 different dictatorships. I hate trump but i love how he’s suddenly the straw that broke the camels back. Argentina was flying political prisoners out into the ocean and leaving them there and Putin was tossing competition out windows with bullets in their brains but now every football fan has a moral leg to stand on.

Most corrupt sport on the planet and the fans are all complicit

The same FIFA that bribed Trump with a shiny trophy is going to protect participants rights?

    lol

Part of me hopes this is a disaster so USA and FIFA lose a ton of money but I don’t want anyone to get hurt.

If you were FIFA, what are your options? I hate the award but I can see it as one of their few options to try to lean him away from ICE operations effecting the teams or fans

I want to believe but I think you’ll just see mildly lower attendance and all the issues being swept under the rug like the Olympics and the 2022 WC in Qatar.
