    “In accordance with the norms of the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, a regime of freedom of navigation operates in the waters of the high seas, and no state has the right to use force against ships properly registered in the jurisdictions of other states,” the message said.

    I don’t know enough to say if the seizure is good or bad, but the bit about UNLoS is irrelevant since the US never ratified it.

    Though the US will claim UNLoS gives them the right to put boats between Taiwan and mainland China.

    And ironically, China did sign UNLoS but flagrantly violates it by building artificial islands and claiming they extend their territorial and EEZ waters, on top of attacking others who are navigating legally under UNLoS.

      Better build artificial Islands than colonize Hawaii, Puerto Rico, Guam and Cuba.

      The Dutch extended their land by capturing the sea too.
