I was raised in an abusive home, and Star Trek TNG was one of my few escapes. I remember wanting to be like Captain Picard when I grew up. Confident, kind, direct, capable, and loving.

I don’t know if I’m there yet. But I’m trying.

    I don’t know if you knew, but Patrick Stewart was also raised in an abusive home, and used acting as a way of escaping.

    I’ll always remember the scene from Extras with Ricky Gervais. Sure, he was an amazing actor, but it showed how effortlessly he could turn his hand to sublime comedy.
