  • They’re trying to make it a thing here. I refuse to participate.

I’m paying for a menu that has your decent wage built in already, I’m not gifting free money on top for just… doing your job?

Also wtf servers in places that do tip… you turn my words in to an entry in a tablet (or perhaps a piece of paper), then carry the food that other people created / prepared / transported / cooked all of 30 steps from the kitchen to my table and expect 20% of the bill? Insanity.

  • This is absolutely fascinating to me… That someone would go out of their way to make a public profile for people to view, but then expect to be notified whenever someone views it.

What’s your goal with knowing who looked? Is it so you can return the favour and if it’s a profile you find attractive start hitting them up for drinks after work? If it’s a more powerful person in your industry, to start weaseling an invite to the exclusive country club they are part of? To see if it’s some rube you can sell a box of widgets to? To climb the corporate ladder by mimicking their achievements?

FYI I just looked at your Lemmy profile. And I reckon I might do it again in a moment. Probably even take a screenshot… for later.

  • Many years ago I did post mix installs. Because we were subcontract, it was not unusual to install a system for one company, then replace it under the banner of another company, and then rip that out and install another system on behalf of the first company again.

I can think of at least 3 different venues in our CBD that I swapped like that.

What it did was make me real good at ensuring anything I installed was easy to follow and work with afterwards… Cause it was probably going to be me again lol

  • I have a slightly unique version of this.

When I was in high school, one of the maths teachers had printed out pi to 100+ digits on tractor feed paper (FYI I am old) and run it around the top of the classroom as a nerdy bit of cornice or whatever.

Because I was so insanely clever(…), I decided to memorise pi to 20 digits to use as my school login password, being about the maximum length password you could have.

Unbeknownst to me, whoever printed it had left one of the pieces of the tractor feed folded over on itself when they hung it up, leaving out a section of the first 20 digits.

I used that password all through school, thinking i was so clever. Until i tried to unrelatedly show off my knowledge of pi and found I’d learned the wrong digits.

I still remember that password / pi to 20 wrong digits. On the one hand, what a waste of brain space. On the other hand, pretty secure password I guess?

  • I’ve always thought that mold is the fungus, and to mould is to shape.

I actually do this too. Not because I think it’s correct as such, but because that way I am consistent and I know what I’m talking about when I read back previous text that I’ve written.

I remember it by Mold = simplified English = simple organism.

  • I’ve been using File Explorer since 2012. It’s straight up the best file manager on Android, especially when you use SMB and SFTP. Multi window makes moving things around easy as, and the built in text editor works a treat. Being able to share images from apps to FX’s “Save As” option is awesome to. It means every app can save where you want.

No idea why it isn’t more popular compared to the alternatives.
