I’m not sure I’m following. The owners of the code can re-license anytime they want, and even dual-license or license on a case-by-case basis. Would require a contributor license agreement to be practical though, and it looks like ffmpeg may not have one.
Yeah, I think they have ways to block payments. Could use crypto though. Would make them much less profitable, since less people would want to go through those hoops. I guess countries like China does pretty intense DPI, and starts throttling and blocking connections that just exhibit suspicious-looking patterns, not to mention blocking every known VPN, Tor bridge, etc.
They could pass laws that made VPNs nearly useless (mandatory logging and law enforcement access), or could pass laws that made it nearly impossible to make money from running a VPN service (make VPNs liable for any “damages” they “facilitated”).
Dunno, I haven’t used private trackers in 10 years. You can add any magnet link to Tribler and it will go through exit nodes to hide your IP, kind of like Tor does for browsing clearnet. I haven’t used i2p in a while either; back then, I used the Postman tracker, and don’t know if that’s still what most people do or not. I personally just use a paid VPN, because there really isn’t a good way to set Tribbler up with an *arr stack.

Edit: there are also non-bittorrent p2p networks out there like Retroshare, but I haven’t used them, so don’t know how useful they are.

Yeah, that could also provide an incentive for companies to produce stuff in ways that reduce carcinogens, yet still have some amount. I think traditional bacon that doesn’t use synthetic curing salts contain less nitrates, for example.

Yeah, can’t be GPU-intensive, but with modern CPUs, virtualization is pretty cheap. One application I had to use was Altium, and its 3d view was pretty laggy under a VM. I prefer KiCad. VMs seem easier than dual-boot to me, but that might just be out of familiarity.
VMs are a solution too, depending on what you use each OS for. I’ve worked some jobs where my main work machine was Linux, but would sometimes need to use Windows-only software, and would just run it on a VM.
Unlike Tor, I think the heavy use of p2p file sharing on the network adds “cover traffic,” making things like correlation attacks harder.

Nicotine+ is an open source client for the Soulseek network. Soulseek/Nicotine+ does not use i2p or do any type of anonymization; it’ uses direct connections. Guessing you meant “p2p.” The network has a lot of music I can’t find through torrents, and I can almost always find the music I’m looking for as FLAC files.
My main workstation runs Debian and has a 3090. No issues that I’m aware of. When I used to use Mint, I think I remember Mint having a GUI to easily select the Nvidia driver you want to use, so it was very easy. In Debian, you just have to run ~10 commands in shell to install the proprietary Nvidia driver. I have an older laptop with an Nvidia GPU too; that one is more annoying because I don’t think any distro supports integrated/dedicated GPU auto-switching (I just have it set to use the Nvidia GPU all the time).
I don’t put mine in the dishwasher and I don’t use soap when cleaning mine (cleans easy enough with hot water, dish rag, and sometimes steel wool), but I don’t season either. I just use a refillable oil spray bottle.
What they’re talking about sounds like the pan I have. Bought it in the camping aisle, and it was much cheaper than the ones in the kitchen aisle. I haven’t found the roughness to be much of an issue; I probably have to use more oil than I would otherwise. It has gotten smoother over many years of use.
