  • but so far the number of dead children has dramatically decreased since Biden was in office.

The reporting on it has certainly decreased, but I don’t think either you nor I can say this is true with any amount of certainty.

Besides, “Israel is playing nice now that they have their ace in the White House” isn’t really the big win you make it out to be. Biden continued shipping armaments, Trump is doing that and more as well as actively making plans with Netanyahu for the expulsion and destruction of Gaza.

The only way we were ever going to fix this from our side of the ocean was by putting a warhead on Netanyahu’s forehead but that was never going to happen with either choice.

  • The aviation industry can absorb a whole lot of sin before they’re on equal danger footing with automotive, if for no other reason than sheer volume. Most people, unless you fly constantly for work, get on a plane once a year or less. Most people drive to work almost every day. Roads have traffic, the skies do not (at least, not nearly to the same extent, midair collisions can happen but they’re rare).

I have no doubt the skies are about to become noticeably less safe, but they’ve got a looooot of catching up to do before they dethrone the automobile as one of the top 3 leading causes of death in America.

  • Oblique angles on all possible bulkheads, and probably the biggest fuck-you electromagnet the military can strap onto a ship.

The way I understand it, a railgun slug by definition of the way a railgun works is required to be made of ferrous metal. We can use that to defend against it. A quarter second blip of extreme magnetism may be able to repel the bullet (or, alternatively, attract it off course from the main body of the ship). You’ll EMP the shit out of anything on board, but eh, you can harden against that if you know it’s coming.

Only other solution I can think of off hand is slagging the incoming round with laser fire but I have trouble believing you’d be able to detect, target, and vaporize an incoming railgun round in the amount of time you have between detection and impact. Those suckers move fast. Average result feels like it would be, congrats, you weren’t hit by a railgun round, but you have been hit by ten pounds of liquid metal moving at nearly relativistic speeds. Potato potato.

Though, with the magnetic defense, the logical next step here is to develop a sort of ferrous sabot round that can accelerate the (non ferrous) payload and then release it to then completely not give any shits about further magnets. You pull that off and your opponent will have to rely on a laser intercept system or similar, and then - yeah, basically, whoever shoots first wins.

There’s a lot to be said for good armor with good oblique angles though. Deflecting force is always going to be easier than absorbing it. If you can arrange to never give your enemy a good shot at a good flat plane, they’ll have a lot harder time penetrating your armor no matter how fast their shots are going. This won’t save you all the time but it’ll do a lot more than you’d probably expect.

  • Nah, honestly, I agree. No sarcasm or anything. I’ve seen a lot of you recently, going around and calling out mods and admins for their bad takes. I think this is a great service to the rest of us who don’t have the time and inclination to do so.

It is not your responsibility to do so, but so long as you are doing it, I appreciate it. I’m sure many others do as well. Community leaders need to be held to a high standard and in order for that to happen someone has to check them about it. We aren’t well organized here and we don’t have a method for that beyond people just like you crawling the mod logs and making noise where it’s warranted.

    Thank you.
