Dist upgrade is only dangerous for the people who do it. Wait a few weeks before upgrading to the new release and most broken things will be fixed already. I used arch a lot, and I do like the idea of rolling releases, but at this point for the couple programs I need new features in, I just build them from source.

I remember going to Murska Sobota to see the romani population there. It was quite surprising as the integration was absolute. What I am saying is that it should not be up to a website company to decide whether something is legal or not. In all other businesses this has always been related to a judge deciding whether something was legal or not. A newspaper is something related, in which case the editor has some responsibility if he lets something clearly illegal slip, however the responsibility falls on the journalist and not on the newspaper itself.

Frankly, I do not want social media - which is currently the main source of information for many and likely most people - to be justified in deciding what should be allowed and what should not. If someone uses such platforms to do something illegal, there are indeed legal methodologies to deal with that.

My personal opinion is I don’t really like this idea. Having the websites responsible of what gets posted means the websites necessarily have to do some censoring. I’m not necessarily against censoring, but I don’t like the idea it is a large private company deciding what to censor. I’d much rather have the government decide and impose the ban on companies.

Moreover, forcing websites to censor things leads to a very centralised internet. The random guy setting up a forum can not afford to patrol that well how website, while big companies indeed can have teams of people doing just that.

Not really sure why you want to switch from mint. Mint is a nice distribution to test out Linux because it comes with many things readily installed and with decent defaults. Since you’re worried about compatibility with several peripherals I’d stick with that.

If you want to switch to something else to learn something new, then pretty much any other distribution is fine. Given enough customisation every distribution is just the same as any other. The only real difference is the repository updates schedule.

Yes, the keyring is a pain, also because I like to manually check all the keys. But then what often happens is that lots of configuration options have changed and you have to go through bunch of software to find out which exact package is now misconfigured and makes your system not work as it should.

Would not advise Debian to a new user. Old packages and difficulties installing non free software may frustrate people.

I did use Debian as my daily driver and I have it in a few servers, it is a very good system. But to the common user stability is not the priority which should prevail over everything else.

Sure, I’m a chemist. I know lots of these uses. I tell you, gold could completely disappear tomorrow and we’d barely feel the effects. Sure, some things would have to be reworked, but we’d be fine in a year.

Indeed, that is out of question. The matter of discussion is that the value of gold is attributed and not intrinsic, since gold does not really cover any fundamental human need. Besides, gold is not strictly required to make computers.

How many things relevant in your life are made out of gold? I guess jewellery, computer and phone. Real things that matter to people the most are completely unrelated to gold.

The fact that it is a material that does not degrade makes it a good choice as a vector for value. It is good to be used as money for that reason. If you use iron as money it will eventually rust out and leave you broke.

The other properties of gold are quite irrelevant to the fact that it has been selected (over and over again through history) as a value vector.

That is valid for many other resources: iron, silicon, carbon, carrots whatever. Gold has always been attributed some special value, throughout history. That is ok. I don’t think US civilization is going to collapse, why would you think that?

The value of gold lies in the fact that other men may be disposed to work their ass off in order to have some shiny things to gift to women in order to have sex. As you can imagine, the power of gold amongst married couples drastically decreases.

Besides this… History shows humans always gave value to gold. For some reason we got very used into associating gold with value. As such, it is probably something good to have if economy collapses. But it doesn’t really matter if society collapsed.

I don’t know, at work we use Microsoft teams, often I get called into meet, zoom and others. The best working one to me is jitsy, that’s not to say it works flawlessly.

I don’t know, sometimes they work on Firefox, sometimes they work on Chrome. Sometimes they do not work and I have to use the phone. Sometimes headphones microphone does not work. Sometimes headphones microphone works but audio goes through speaker and not headphones.

I don’t know, I gave up attempting to fix all these things. Most of the times it’s more than one person in the call and we end up just joining together at the computer that works first. To be fair, my colleagues using windows are not free from these problems.
