Don’t get me wrong, it’s the correct “deal” to make - it’s the most overt declaration he can make to those who claim he wants to be dictator for life - I just think it’s probably a win/win for him.

If these were legally obtained photos, why should someone be compelled to delete them? Compelled deletion is a slippery slope. Shared a legally purchased mp3 with a friend? Delete it. Shared a picture of Beyonce at the Superbowl? Delete it.

I think you fundamentally misunderstand what Amazon is removing. From your linked article:

The only thing Amazon is removing is the ability to save books that you purchased from them. No more personal backups of legally purchased material, but piracy is still fair game.

Their factories in Nevada, Texas, and China all have a lot of extra space and/or land for expansion. They’ve also been considering building more factories in Mexico, another one in Europe, and possibly SE Asia, though it’s unclear whether any of those are going to materialize - especially with the current downturn in sales.

Their batteries may not be special, but if they can scale to what they were promising a few years ago (which is a much bigger “if” than it used to be), their battery business could easily surpass BYD’s, which could justify its current market cap on its own (but not much higher).

I’ve got mixed feelings on FSD. I think it’s nearly “solved” for places with nice climate, but I think there’s a lot of work needed to deal with inclement weather like snow and slush and even heavy rain. I don’t think any company has any idea how to solve that issue, so they’re just pushing it down the road until someone else solves it first.

The share price isn’t based on car sales. If it were just about car sales, it would be about 10% of the price it is now.

The share price is mostly ridiculous, but it is also people trying to get in early, on the assumption that they solve FSD, battery storage, Optimus (their robot), and battery manufacturing.

If they solve all of this, then Tesla could 10x again. It’s very future dependent, and I think that future is a lot longer away than a lot of other shareholders think.

I got in at ~$20 per share. I’ve significantly reduced my position over the last few months, but I do still believe in the original mission of Tesla. I just don’t think they’re going to get there with Elon.

Every single eligible voter who did not vote was complicit in his victory. A supermajority of voters were fine with this result.

Exactly this. I’m not going to sell my model 3 - I already paid for it, and I do like it - but I’ll certainly be looking elsewhere when I need to replace it if Musk is still associated with Tesla.

One more problem was that the various milestones had projections for likelihood and time to completion, but what they presented to the shareholders was different than their internal projections.

So not only did they think some of these milestones were likely, they lied to shareholders about how likely they were to make the package seem more difficult to achieve.

It can be hard to separate art from artist, but just keep in mind that you’ve already paid for those books. He isn’t getting more money from you just rereading them, and nothing changes if you continue to enjoy the books.

Why can’t a country (or city, or anythung) choose what others call them?

We call it Timor Leste instead of East Timor. We call it Cote d’Ivoire instead of Ivory Coast. We call it Kyiv instead of Kiev. We call it Russia instead of USSR. All of these are names chosen within the last 50 years or so.

A lot of the “traditional” names are just historical holdovers from a very long time ago. If we encountered them for the first time today, we probably would use their chosen name. If tomorrow they said they wanted to be referred to as Deutschland or Nippon, we’d probably accept that and start calling them by those names.

We had a drone scare in a town near where I live. It was dropping a “mysterious substance” on cars and houses. Turns out it was just a heron pooping on things.
