  • Brazilian here. The situation is much more complex than “Brasil is destroying the amazon”. We suffer from political instability, and the big foreign oil companies lust after our resources with enough power to lobby our politicians and manipulate thepublic. A notable case was in the early 2000s, when pro-environment protests led to petrobras abdicating from exploring some recently discovered sources, only for shell to come and explore it soon after, so the environmental damage was done anyway, and we lost our sovereignty over it. Allowing for petrobras to explore it can allow for some degree of environmental control and avoid falling into the same trap. But since things are always more complicated the more we look into it, petrobras isn’t fully state-owned, and suffers market pressure from several actors, both national and foreign.

Anyway, I don’t agree with the exploration in the amazon, but I wanted to show that things are way more complicated than the international media make it look.

  • I see you already got the answers you need, so I just came to welcome you to the linux community, and wish you good luck.

In the beginning, it will be a bit hard, because changing things we’re used to is always hard, but give it some time, and you get the long-term benefits, which, in my opinion, are very worth it. Among a few things, you will experience no arbitrary interruptions to your device usage, will have lower hardware requirements, your devices will last longer, will have to deal with much less bullshit, and will even have more free time (unless you become one who likes to spend time tinkering with the system lol)

  • I can’t speak for the whole country, but at least in my city, it’s notable how bolsonarism has been losing energy. I know people who were strong supporters who are not caring for him anymore and less and less people are talking about him in public places. I believe today’s news will deliver another strong blow against this collective madness, and the slow improvement in the economy since last elections will bring more people back to supporting the left parties, at least the worker’s party.

  • Thanks for the info. I will try upgrading now. To save people a click, here are the instructions:

On Syncthing on the official app, go into the settings and create a backup. Confirm you can see that backup in your files. Now stop the official app entirely using the system app settings for Syncthing (force stop the app basically - we need to ensure it’s not running). Install Syncthing-Fork v1.29.7.1 Now start Syncthing-Fork. In the Syncthing-Fork settings, restore the backup you created earlier. Like magic, everything should be as it was in Syncthing official. Confirm everything looks good. Uninstall the official Syncthing app. Delete the syncthing configuration backup from backups/syncthing. Upgrade to the latest Syncthing-Fork version

  • If you’re not in a position to change your workflow and deal with new stuff, you can simply use windows 10 lts for a longer support and postpone the decision between linux and windows 11.

Personally, I’d recommend trying linux some day. It can drain some free time at first, but in the long run, you will find yourself dealing with much less bullshit than windows, and actually saving time in your life. Some linux users like to make things complicated and pass their time tinkering with the system, so it passes an image of linux being like that, but if you run a simple and stable distro, things will work nicely and will rarely require your time. I’m running fedora for a few years, and my laptop became so boring. I just use it for my work and hobbies, and turn it off when done. No bullshit.
