Yeah well assisted living with skilled nursing costs a fortune. Luckily most people only need that for 6 months to a year before they die anyway. I’m talking more like “55+ downsized housing” that doesn’t yet require a nurse, memory care, or any of that stuff.
I think for most Americans, they are considering it a win if their parents saved enough to retire and have their affairs in order. Just knowing you won’t have to do some bizarre financial trickery to handle your parents retirement housing and end of life care is a huge relief, to say nothing of having anything left over to inherit when they’re gone.

I actually agree with you, in that I’ve been where you are and it is extremely difficult. There has been more pushback recently against the idea that very young kids are magically entitled to unfettered device access. The incentives are misaligned because big tech just wants more and more pairs of eyes. They don’t really care about the underlying harms. However they have built better parental controls recently. I have to credit Apple (extremely reluctantly) because their controls and reporting seem to be better.
However you are right, there will always be some other kid at school with a completely unlocked device because his parents are idiots and pay zero attention.
Thinking about this recently. Kids tend to find ways to abuse the technology for “naughty” purposes whatever the era. I remember the first kid I knew with residential internet back in the early 90s, the very first thing he wanted to show off about it was that you could get on some ancient bulletin board system and if you waited like 7 minutes you could eventually see a whole picture of a topless woman.
Trying to age gate all internet smut sounds like a losing battle. I think an unintended consequence might be young people hassling their peers for nudes at a higher rate. Either that or they will find alternative modes of distribution that adults didn’t even think about.
Maybe instead of trying to deanonymize internet usage for literally everybody, there is an actual social solution such as, oh, I dunno, parenting?

Lots of things about US democracy are vaporware. The two-party paradigm and candidate selection in particular are a joke. Repubs various state party orgs eliminated any real primary challenge to Trump. Democrats spiked any meaningful primary challenges to Biden and then installed a replacement who received zero primary votes.

The temp is low but it is a vacuum. Vacuums are bad at dissipating heat. Think of the vacuum walled drinking vessels. They are so efficient at keeping beverages hot/cool because the vacuum insulates the majority of the surface area that heat can move across.
Likewise a cooling tank of water (typical nuclear reactor design) itself surrounded by vacuum, will not cool efficiently at all. Presumably they’d have to use piping to circulate the water over a large surface area of some other medium like the moon rock itself.

Then I finally popped the cart in, and this thing was so bad it just defied all logic. Horrific controls, shitty graphics, unclear user interface and objectives, terrible draw distance. Timed level segments and insane difficulty.
There might be “worse” games but I have never been more disappointed in a release than Superman 64.

Yes. This is apparently so much of a problem that US and other nations include this in security training for military personnel and contractors. They literally teach you not to get in arguments online about weapons capabilities and whatnot because they know people are dumb enough to post classified info just so they can be like “ackshually…” on an internet forum.
