I successfully submitted for a short term disability claim for an anxiety condition that arose from my ADHD. A few weeks later I was told that there wouldn’t be a role for me to return to once I was recovered. IE in an attempt to avoid a nasty law suit they aren’t firing me until I’m off short term disability.

Talk about setting up adverse conditions for recovery!

  • I was pretty skeptical of them when I clicked “Technology Connections” video on them. It’s the same thing as a convection oven, what’s the big deal?

Well it’s the same just like how a quadcopter drone is the same thing as a RC dual rotor helicopter

It’s like yeah they’re the same thing, but they have some important differences too.

  • Fair enough I get all that. My contention is that writing off commenters as shills and bots underestimates the size of the problem.

I agree that the Kremlin targets the fabric of our society. But they have succeeded to the point that we can’t just cut off the affected parts. It’s too pervasive. We need to mend and reinforce the damaged fabric. Idk if you’re confident they’re shills/bots/trolls then I guess you’re right, but what if they’re just ignorant?

  • Just FYI it’s totally possible for non-shills/bots to support Russia. They can be real people just with different experiences, values and/or information diets than you.

Like to me it’s pretty obvious who the bad guys in the war are (russia). But to a Belarusian it’s probably not so clear (in fact I’ve met a Belarusian that feels this way).

Writing people off as shills/bots gives a false sense of security (not exactly the passing I want but close enough I guess)

I think it’s much healthier to say something like “your head is so far up your ass it’s difficult to understand you”.

  • I’m not a person with a minority Sexual Orientation/Gender Identity, but here are my two cents: I think upvoting supportive content in a space that’s safe and welcoming to people with minority SOGIs is zero impact, online commenting in that same welcoming space is about as impactful as upvoting in a less welcoming space, both of which are directly adjacent to zero impact. I reckon that negatively reacting to an SOGI antagonist (eg the coworker you mentioned), is an appreciable act of allyship, more impact than a token gesture during Pride. I’m not sure if it would be higher or lower than an anonymous complaint to HR about discriminatory language.

  • /u/Nexy is confused about the difference between a political view and an identity.

They are correct that there isn’t really a difference between being an ally of a political movement like Feminism and being a member of that movement (although I think that movements/organizations with different priorities can be allies with a movement like Feminism, e.g.) a person is either a Feminist or not a Feminist there’s nobody that’s an ally of Feminism.

But there is a difference between advocating for rights for people with minority Sexual Orientation and Gender Identities (SOGIs), and being a person that is 2SLGBTQI. If we had a word that encapsulated the movement like Feminism does then we wouldn’t need to tack on “ally”. SOGI-ism? Good luck.

My dad was doing some family tree genealogy, he discovered that one of our predecessors died of ‘dementia’ at the age of 28. He discovered that a historian had written a paper (thesis?) on a spike in the number of poisonings that happened in the area (Glasgow I think) at that time (mid-late 1800’s I think). Dad reached out to the historian and she thought it was a likely case.

So my N-th great-grandma (or her beau) probably got away with murdering my N-th great-grandpa.

Her son moved to Canada, (Toronto) went to Winnipeg for work, leaving his pregnant wife in Toronto. Then he joined the army for WWI, and died in Flanders.

Allegedly when his wife (Toronto) went to claim the pension it was already being claimed by his ‘widow’ in Winnipeg.

The baby from the pregnant Toronto wife was my great great grandmother, so he was my GGG grandfather so N=4.

I said allegedly with respect to the pension because it’s a family legend only attested to by my great-grandmother, who may have been a pathological liar. The rest of the story is reasonably verified.

  • I’d probably start designing and building a rolling ball clock/ sculpture, then hit some sort of obstacle and switch to making a self recirculating eddy current tube, get frustrated and try to design and build an electronically commutated counter rotating propeller driver, get frustrated and try to build a garage sized 3d printer, get frustrated and try to build a delayed action door closer get frustrated and try to build a co-planar compound cycloidal reducer, get frustrated and then forget my wife’s anniversary until 4pm the day before.
