Probably. They could have used their wealth for anything but they’re like dragons. Do you mourn for dragons in stories of knights slaying them?

I enjoy many social interactions.
Went to a concert this weekend. Chatted with the person running the merch table. Briefly chatted with a rando at the bar. Was nice.
Went to a party this weekend. Had a nice chat with some people I’d met before. Maybe came on kind of strong to the socialists in one conversation, but it was fun.
Lemmy probably isn’t going to get you a representative sample of people.

I mostly buy music from bandcamp. Drm free, different format options, you can stream before you buy (if the band has it configured as such)

Ah that’s interesting. I’m too much of a pack rat and the idea of selling some of my music makes me uncomfortable. Though I guess I have some games that were duds I wouldn’t mind selling.

buying drm-free digital media is probably also okay, if you back it up yourself.
i don’t do any subscriptions, myself.

Probably get more return on resources investing in therapy to address phobias, in that case.

That doesn’t sound much different than a traditional vaccine, unless you can self administer it
I vote in every election. New York has ranked choice for some things now, which is nice. The way judges are picked is pretty bad, though.

What I was trying to get at is something can be worthwhile even if you don’t personally enjoy it.

Conservatism, probably. The whole in-group supremacy thing is pretty bad.

I think a lot about how “good” and “fun” are two different things.
You can have a game that’s a fascinating exploration of a theme that really unifies mechanics and story, but is an absolute downer of misery to play.
You can also have a game that’s a glorified slot machine with bugs, no real player input, and abusive monetization, but people’s brains light up playing it.
There’s some subjectivity of course, but sometimes I see games that are good at what they’re trying to be, but I don’t have any fun with them. Some people seem to demand those overlap all the time.

I use nano for quick edits. I don’t know more than the basics of vim, and don’t do a lot of editing on the terminal so I haven’t needed to.

I don’t know a lot about how fingerprinting works, but some of what i’ve read is pretty insidious. Some things could probably be obfuscated, but some of what the trackers use has legitimate purposes as well. Your application may serve different content based on the screen size, or fall back to an older library if such-and-such API isn’t supported.
Personally I’d rather make targeting advertising and tracking illegal, and gut the whole thing to avoid the arms race.

So you’re going to make it illegal to call getBoundingClientRect and then pass that information to fetch through any mechanism?

You’d have to kill a lot of JavaScript and CSS for that to work, and then a lot of legitimate function goes away.
Done much web development work?

I’m pretty sure for fonts they can tell because they have different widths, which affects page layout, which can be measured.
There’s a lot of stuff like that.
Best would be make it illegal and give the law teeth. Solving it technically will always be an arms race.

Ars is weirdly pro-windows sometimes , in the comments. I don’t read them as much as I used to.

Conservatives don’t care about being correct or consistent. They say things for effect. They follow their feelings. Something inside them is broken and ruined. They project constantly onto others, because introspection would shatter their flimsy ego.
That’s like several months of food. Or years worth of video games. That’s so expensive. Even if I was a big fan of the sport, I wouldn’t be able to justify spending that.
