I just try to avoid it entirely. Every post gets heavily downvoted anyway because conservatives are totally outnumbered on Lemmy. So it’s mostly people mocking them.

I feel like it’s so confusing if you just see the comments without the posts. But also the comments are the best part of Lemmy so it kinda makes sense.
I’m already addicted to Lemmy so that’s not an issue
Wow. I never even noticed that option before. That’s actually pretty cool.
But kind of sounds like a bug in that case, because if the admins wanted to remove the community then it shouldn’t be possible to view comments from there either.
If you can’t see the community itself, then how are you seeing comments?
When you view people’s profiles?
Pretty sure that’s been a thing for a while. It’s like when lemmy.world blocked [email protected]. They are still federated but they just blocked that one community.
I assume that’s what lemmy.ml is doing with the conservative community.
In my experience most internet spaces that specifically cater to teenagers also tend to attract a lot of creeps. I think it’s probably for the best to nominally limit Lemmy to adults only, especially at this early stage.
You’re assuming that a centenarian couldn’t set up a Lemmy server? That’s ageism
Interesting story but it’s also talking about how inflation was at 80% in Brazil in the 1980s, because they were printing money. What they did in 1993 with the URVs is a fascinating psychological experiment, but I’m not sure if it was the critical factor in stopping inflation. As per the article
It wasn’t the only trick, obviously. While they put URVs in place, the group of economists made the government balance its budget and slow down on money creation.
So I feel like it was basic economic policy that mostly worked, rather than printing money and trying to dictate its value.
He was an all time great baseball player. Aside from that I don’t really care too much about him as a person.
But since you’re asking, he just seems hard headed and grumpy, and the allegations of being a major racist seem mainly based on discredited biographies from 50+ years ago.
The quuuuuuuuill, spitting bars
Nice comment.
Aside from the very valid points that others have already made, I have some input.
First of all, I do agree that there should be a maximum age limit for positions of great power. But it should be like 80 or 85 years old imo, so it wouldn’t really change much.
Older people are actually far more concerned about the future than younger people in many ways, usually because of their experience and their children. Whereas younger people don’t quite grasp how critical our actions are in shaping the future.
Secondly, and tangentially, I wouldn’t be so sure that Gen Z will ever be a dominant political faction. Similarly to how Gen X was basically steamrolled by the baby Boomers, Gen Z is likely to be the victim of millennial elites. Gen Z is a smaller cohort than millennials, partially due to declining birth rates but also due to the ripple effect.
There were a fuck ton of baby Boomers (1946-1964) due to high birth rates, and most of their kids were millennials (1981-1998). Conversely, there were much fewer GenX kids (65-80), partially because many of their potential parents were killed in wars and also because of rapidly declining birth rates. This demographic reality has spilled down to Gen Z, which is less numerous as well.
Then you’re also going to have to deal with Generation alpha right behind you, who are largely the children of millennials and have grown up in a chaotic environment. Who knows how the fuck they’re going to turn out.
So yeah, good luck wresting political control from the millennials, because it’s unlikely at best.
I figured it wasn’t a big deal because only one of the mods of this comm has a local account.
I put in an application for a local account here though, just in case
Thank you sir 🫡. I’ll do my best
It’s what the people keep telling me. And you do display superhuman stamina and dedication.
Whatever man, nobody is perfect. Except for Blaze, the hero that Lemmy deserves
Just let the community keep running and see what happens. I’ll help moderate it.
It’d be a shame to lose one of the few major communities on Lemmy not hosted by one of the major servers, imho. If midwest.social admins keep making unpopular decisions, then this community will probably wither and the db0 one will take over. But I feel like that ban was pretty funny even though I disagree with it, so I’m willing to give the benefit of the doubt.
The alternative could also occur, if some shit goes down on db0 and the new community actually implodes. I have no reason to expect that to happen, but you never know. Best to let things play out, I’m subscribed to both communities anyhow and crossposting is also something that is quite simple on Lemmy.
Also there’s about 1000 posts and 10k comments on this community and it’s mostly good content, built up over like 2 years. I just hate leaving all that behind and having to start over. I think of new users viewing by top posts of all time and this is one of the better Lemmy communities for that.
Heh, you old af. My condolences.
But at least that’s a nice round number.
Bro… this is a fucking wild comment I hope it’s satirical.
I’m not so sure they want to “persuade the leftists”, I think they probably just want to find other conservatives to validate their feelings. But there isn’t any space for that on Lemmy atm.
They’ll probably need to make their own servers, which will immediately get defederated en masse. But I think Lemmy should be for every human being who seeks knowledge, even conservatives. That doesn’t mean we need to federate with them, but that’s the nature of open source software. You can’t pick and choose who uses it.
