  • I’ve lived in and worked at a number of co-ops. I think they’re far better for the employee than traditional businesses when implemented in a democratic way. Having control over the workplace and direction of the business is incredibly valuable. It’s also important that the co-op members talk to and know eachother. Having lots of meetings and community building is very typical in this type of business.

Also the type of co-op I’m talking about also returns excess profits to the workers (often with a portion taken out to be put back into the business/saved for a rainy day). In this way they are way better than unions, which no matter how powerful do not fully redistribute profits.

I also think worker co-ops are functionally better than worker communes. Co-ops give much more economic freedom to the workers, and side step many of the pitfalls of live/work communes.

Feel free to ask me more about my experiences if you’re curious :)

  • I agree with all your predictions to my questions lol.

Though i don’t think rednote will actually take the place of tiktok, I think that’s mostly a protest migration & something else will take the top spot – if tiktok actually stays banned. I do think there’s a chance trump will choose not to enforce the ban in a meaningful way because he knows it will rally quite a few young and nieve voters into his camp (plus he’d probably get a hefty payoff).

I’m so sorry you went through such a terrible schooling environment. I work with neurodivergent kids and its so sad to see and hear about some of the ‘methods’ people think are appropriate. It’s truely heartbreaking knowing it’s not just you but an entire school of people who were systemically abused and further disenfranchised.

I hope you are able to find a way to heal and move forward in your life, i know how sticky trauma can be.

Edit to add: sorry to comment on such an old post lol, i just realized this tread is like a month old

  • It’s locked so I would have to verify it in order to do any kind of resetting passwords and stuff. Which requires uploading photo id and a video of my face. I don’t really want to do all that, so I’m hoping that it being locked is enough to keep it from being used by hackers.

I honestly just stopped using it so long ago & hadn’t even thought about the account until my sister told me it got hacked. I don’t care about having access to it, I just want it to be effectively useless lol

  • I see where youre comming from & also think its important to support artists I like, and I do. I think both AI and artists can coexist & serve different purposes.

Something like this, using AI for a banner, is using a tool for people to create something they couldnt/wouldnt before. It doesnt mean I’m not going to buy a cool print or painting from an artist I like.

& I think its cool to have something that aggregates information and makes it accesible and easy to work with for the masses. Its messed up that it is currently controlled by corporate interests, but there are also people working on FOSS ai. Its this kind of snapshot of humanity in its current state, that I think goes beyond any particular artist/writer/person.

I get being worried about it taking jobs, but I think new ones will spring up to take their place.

(Or really optimistically maybe well see some sort of radical change that will make the concept of ‘earning a living’ obsolete, like UBI or something)

Edited to add: as a writer, people who buy my writing wouldnt just use ai to replace me. If anything it can supplement my work by making it easier for fans to make fanart & help build hype around the universe and characters that I created.

  • Yo db dont let these haters get you down. I think it looks like a really cool project and love the idea of a shifting banner than anyone can contribute prompts to. I also love the idea of backgroud details being influenced by various metrics of the community.

AI is a tool (just like photoshop, electric lawn mowers, and combustion engines). Anyone who thinks its replacing artists are really underestimating the editing needed to produce something good from AI generators. And this is comming from a writer who loves how much AI has helped with various parts of the process.
