I think the notion that certain traits are normalized or even praised is spot on.

I just finished rings of power and the picture of sauron as the great deceiver who even deceives himself at times is harrowing. I have been very successful in business and met people just like him. The higher i got the more obvious.

People who lie without any change in tone or rhythm, who are incredibly fast and enthusiastic explaining away your absolutely spot on criticisms and fears without as much as breaking a sweat.

These people also have been incredibly unreliable, never due to their own fault of course. They just swish away any competition by any means necessary. And they are impulsive as hell. They just lose it if you dont comply.

On one hand, I really sympathize with people who suffer from the condition i just described traits of. It is impossible for me to say how to act on this without massive discrimination against people with this condition although I see dire need to exclude these traits from any positions of power.

Because if they run unrestrained and even praised, this is how you get genocidal maniacs as rulers of countries. Its these people at the root of every major downfall of our society.

Massive fraud and banking collapse: these traits. Building software to supercharge rents to efficiently drain the public: these traits, it is everywhere.

And for the people with internet, tv, radio or access to newspapers:

the police can make you look at the camera to unlock your phone (for example to check if you’re aiding refugees from the ethnic lgbtq cleansing) but they cant (easily and in some countries legally) force you to type in a pin and password. I know the point is a bit moot for a pc as at that point the will just rip out your drive, assuming its not encrypted.

My personal opinion is twofold:

1. they need a diversion. Like a magician (or more accurate a pickpocket) they will take anything to make people blind while they amass their power. It is a sickness of the mind. They are addicted to power and ever anxious to loose it. Minorities are a good enemy for the people to blame the problems on that these people either cause themselves or dont want to take care of. In the past it was witches, nowadays it is other minorities.
2. minorities have been fighting for a place in the world for a long time and there have been significant improvements. But that is not a positive development if you want to rule supreme. If you‘re power crazed, you need people to fall in line. Otherwise it wont work. We have ample evidence that only a sufficiently subdued population will not rise up against authority.

This is as inspiring as it is terrifying.

I suggest a long nail. Make sure to hammer it in nice and deep so the breaker holds.

After many careers and much money earned and spent, I now try to go by „ikigai“. Its a japanese theory and teaches you to be aware of what it is that you want, what makes you money, what the world needs and what you‘re good at, basically. This is how I went from a very well paid but soul sucking job to a lesser paid but much more fulfilling work.

For me it was building computers and the stuff around it. Its fun and it makes decent money if done right.

• script that limits accumulator charge to 80% on asus laptop

If you - like me - dont like to use large companies if you can avoid it, I suggest a proxy server. You open port 8089 or something on your router, (security bonus: accept only connections from proxy‘s ip,) install nginx proxy manager and reroute the domain in question to said ip and port.

This probably works in many ways but thats the first that comes to my mind.

Of course you can use cloudflare free tier afaik. But remember, if you dont pay for it, you‘re the product.

Actually, this has been discussed on lemmy and we tried to set something up but it didnt pan out afaik. Feel free to push for it or link it if you find something that would work.

One that splits my money over open source projects per my usage (I tell them). Currently it is too hard to find all donation links of all projects one uses and then keep an eye on them, update payment info and amount. Also if many people donate small amounts it would lessen the overhead compared to one person donating small amounts.

What I‘m saying is please (who can) consider asking and paying people for implementing this stuff.

For example: voice chat in discord (or any) bridges isnt implemented because it is a lot of work but it is doable.

Consider making a gofundme for paying someone to do it if you cant afford it yourself.

One reason why open source is far behind prorietary stuff (foss can be commercial, see nextcloud) is because people keep thinking anything in life is actually free.

There is no such thing as free lunch. If you‘re getting free software it is because someone donated their time to make it.

In case of discord: make an issue on the mautrix bridges for example and add a financial incentive if you can so people can afford to make this for you. Good luck :)

I can see how one would struggle to use these bridges. They‘re not polished yet. Have you donated to the maker yet? Because people keep comparing stuff that people make for free in their free time to multi million dollar priducts.

We should all either put in work or money before we allow ourselves to judge these apps. I personally spend 1% of my income additionally to helping the development.

You will probably get the best answers from the peertube community so I suggest you crosspost your question there.

That said, I host a peertube instance. It is the same as any other fediverse service but it is very young so dont expect it to be on par with mastodon and lemmy in terms of usability.

As with all other services, you can make an account on an instance, seeing only what that instance allows you to, either by specifically allowing or disallowing other servers.

So if you want the user experience, check joinpeertube.org for a rather well connected (and or maybe large) instance and join if you want to upload content. If not, you can just use your mastodon account to follow creators or comment on their videos.

If you want freedom to do as you please, you need to get a server that is online (as in not in your home network or at least exposed but treat with caution). You can then install a peertube instance of your own, ideally with a custom domain. Then you can join the network and federate with who and whatever you like.

In any case, framatube is a great company imo but their marketing just isnt that good. Peertube has so much potential and it could be further along by now.

But dont get me wrong. It is still great and here to stay.
