Like 10-15 years ago, I contacted the air force to join and become an officer (I have a degree). I wanted to do a gs-1102 job. The recruiter asked why I wanted to join. I said for a job. They said no, they wanted patriots. Guy, ask service members, they aren’t there to “serve their country,” they are there for a job.

I live in a small city of like 33k, and basically, why is it a snooze fest? Because the population is mostly 9-5 and with families or older people. There is stuff to do, but it isn’t centered around the 20 somethings. That kind of thing is for the bigger cities or college towns.
I can tell ya that for someone like myself, the bar scene doesn’t fit who I am today. It fit me back in my 20s, but that’s because I wasn’t super healthy, mentally. Something to think about

I do IT category management, sourcing/procurement for F500 companies. Been doing it for like 15 years and I don’t know what else I would be doing. I like the work. It’s challenging, changes enough, and there is a mix of strategic and tactical work. Notably, I don’t get burned out with it.
