  • Putin holds the US responsible for the collapse of the Soviet Union, and wants to see the US collapse. How would you collapse the US? You’d divide the country against each other so neither side (red/blue, both politicians and civilians] trusted the other. You’d alienate all their allies. You’d make the people distrustful of experts, of science, of news media. You’d sow distrust of the government, then make the government unstable. You’d destabilize the financial market. It should take a lot of subtle effort at the start, but once there’s momentum it gets a lot easier.

If you look at things from the point of view that Trump is a Russian asset, it makes a lot more sense.

  • One cat would yell for a while, then settle down. When she was older, it took longer for her to settle down, until she was just yelling constantly for hours. I finally gave up and let her out of the carrier - the only time I’ve ever done that, and we were an hour from home with no traffic and no stops needed - and she stopped yelling immediately, just stood on my lap, panting.

At which point I realized that, as large as our car carrier was (it’s one of the largest ‘carryable’ ones I’ve seen), it wasn’t quite tall enough for the cat to stand completely upright and she was in pain because of her arthritis. We’d been torturing her, for hours! We made some changes after that!

For people who have carriers with a smooth or only slightly rough bottom: your cat may be yelling because they can’t keep traction and are unexpectedly sliding a bit on curves and turns. We got one of those non-slip shower mats and cut it down to size, to reduce slipping, then added a beach towel for comfort. Everything is still washable (use white vinegar to get rid of the smell of cat urine), but the cat is much happier!

  • It depends on what the medication is. Mostly I just crush it up and mush it into a Churu or their food or something. If they need to be on an empty stomach, like if I need them to have some gabapentin before a vet visit but they need to be on an empty stomach, I’ll dose their water.

Depending on the cat, you may need to look into a different medication, especially if it’s one of the ones with weird flavors, like cherry Clavamox; I’ll see if I can get an abx injection instead.

Worse comes to worse, you can try getting the medication compounded into a different form or a different flavor. The one thing I absolutely insist on getting compounded are appetite stimulants: the cat doesn’t want to eat anyway, and me forcing something down his throat is going to make him more likely to try to avoid both me and the food. I get transdermal ciproheptadine (mirtazapine can make some of them agitated, and I’d rather be certain that any weirdness is their illness and not the treatment). You just gently rub some on their inner ear and an hour later they want to eat :)
