The issue is that public trackers are too easy for people to monitor and pursue copyright infringement claims for. Private trackers, by design, are much harder to do that with, which makes them leaps and bounds safer to use.

My family ranges between snobby bourgeoisie to lower level elites, and they act like they can’t comprehend anything that isn’t the squeaky clean version of the American Dream, seemingly to preserve their fragile illusion that they are better than anything less. I have a strangely opposite situation. Politics is one of the safer topics in my family, even though I am a lot further left than the rest of them.

So, in my case, I have very little in common with them except for being on the left side of politics, and the areas that we disagree there feel much less personal than them judging all of my life choices.

I haven’t had a single issue with feeling censored at DB0. If anything, it is users from other instances acting like they own the whole Fediverse that I have occasionally had a problem with, but I don’t think any of them were moderators.

I sort of feel the opposite. My childhood self was least like who I really am. Aging has been a process of becoming my true self and expressing it honestly. If anything, the only thing that feels like a mask is my aging body—but my spirit/truth is constantly in a process of being revealed.

You sound like a germophobe, to be honest. Yes, your situation is gross, but the human immune system is pretty amazing. Just look at how many people in New York City survive every day in a melting pot of subway germs.

Fecal matter and other organic waste can transmit disease and infection, especially if you get it in an open wound, but the chances of that happening if you clean and dress the wound soon after are very low. Even if a wound does get infected, we have medicine that can deal with that easily as long as it isn’t allowed to persist for a long time.

In my opinion, it sounds a little bit like you could benefit from therapy to become more comfortable with these feelings of revulsion towards normal exposure to germs. It is good to have sanitizer and stuff ready when you need it, but you also don’t need to suffer through continued panic after cleaning and disinfecting yourself from a gross exposure.

We are a normal species. It is not unusual for animals to pick on the weak—just look at how many mammals eat the runt of the litter.

The lesson, I believe, is to take your own protection seriously, and not underestimate the potential of people around you due to familiarity. Hope for the best, be prepared for the worst.
