Long time Firefox user. Installed Librewolf today and so far so good. I used Firefox sync to get all my settings, bookmarks, open tabs, etc. back. At some point I will probably find an alternative yo Firefox sync but it’ll do for the time being.

I started out on Cinnamon (via Mint). Although I have used Ubuntu many moons ago but despised Gnome and never touched it since. After Mint In went to Arch where I DE hopped for many years. I tried XFCE (didn’t like the visual inconsistences); Openbox - liked and loved for quite a while as a minimalist setup; Mate - too old looking so didn’t last; Deepin - lasted a very long time because I loved it so much but eventually stopped because they changed the design too much to be link Windows; Budgie which lasted a little while and was the next closest to what Deep in provided. Was too immature at the time to be enjoyed long term; Pantheon - I still love Pantheon. It’s consistent, polished and cohesive. To me a perfect blend of nice looking, minimal and functional. Stopped using because I got tired of having to fix it on Arch; Finally KDE. It’s what I’ve been using for several years now because it just works, it looks nice, it’s very customisable (I can make my desktop look similar to Pantheon), I like the integration and ecosystem of apps, it has great support and devs that listen… I’m yet to have a DE tempt me away from it. Not even Cosmic lol.

Or buy a Kobo instead and it just works. Bonus, no money to Amazon at all.

If that is the case, that’s a weird way to think. I mean, if I was using Windows and one app stopped working, I wouldn’t blame that on Windows, I would just assume an issue with that particular app being incompatible with an update. 🤷🏻‍♀️ At least, my definition of my system breaking is either it won’t boot at all, or it won’t boot into the DE. Even then, not booting could be a broken bootloader (not a broken system) which is usually straightforward to fix.

Almost a decade for me (on CachyOS currently) and I also have no idea how people are breaking their systems so much. In that decade, I think my system broke twice due to an update hiccup and both times were easy to fix.

You know that many vets and universities get kick backs or receive funding from kibble companies right? I was training to be a vet nurse (I have the prerequisite qualification and only reason I didn’t finish was because my disability worsened and I was unable to do the clinic hours) so I’m not just some rando giving advice… We switched our cats to raw food a decade ago and they have never been healthier. Cats are obligate carnivores and in the wild they eat almost nothing but raw meat (a little vegetable matter in the guts of their prey and eating grass, etc). Cats have evolved over millennia to eat raw meat. Their physiology is not adapted to eat the high amounts of carbohydrates in kibble. Not to mention the high rates of kidney disease, diabetes, dental disease, etc. with feeding kibble. Kibble is a species inappropriate diet no different from humans eating junk food. For the same reasons humans get diabetes, heart disease, cancer, etc. from eating junk food, cats suffer poor health eating kibble. The kibble industry is a billion dollar industry with a vested interest in keeping vets and pet owners hooked. If you can’t feed raw, feed wet. Its not ideal, bit it’s far better than kibble. Your kitty deserves better than the bs the kibble industry spouts.

EDIT: While I’m thinking about it, do not feed cats beef. It is one of the single biggest contributors to allergies. Small cats eat small prey and cows are definitely not small. Again, their physiology is not designed to handle digesting meat from large animals. Beef is allergenic to cats.

Same, been using an AMD card since building a new PC a few years ago and its been completely smooth sailing. My spouse also built a new PC at the same time but decided to go nvidia instead and has had constant problems (now regrets not going AMD as well) and has yo regularly downgrade the driver and/or kernel just to have a working system or games that don’t have things like vertices explosions.

ElementaryOS (Pantheon desktop)

Our cats have always been fed raw and they get fed twice a day. One of our cats, the vet said he was “the most beautiful specimen I ever seen”. He’s just a basic tabby (rescue) but does indeed have the most glorious fur. Our failed foster’s pervious owner fed her an expensive fancy diet but kibble and we thought she had coarse fur. After months with us on raw, she also has gloriously soft fur and what we thought was psychological urination issues also cleared up.

Everyone here sorta answers the questions but not entirely. So KDE started back in the 1990s as K Desktop Environment as a play on the Common Desktop Environment. The K was originally suggested as standing for Kool buy I guess others in project didn’t think that was very kool and it was left officially as just K.

As to why Plasma - when KDE 4 was released, “Plasma” replaced Kdesktop shell and whatnot and was named Plasma because plasma evokes dynamic fluidity like plasma or some such lol. Unfortunately I can’t find anything easily on the interwebs that shows how it got it’s name :/

Yes, there are a number of apps (including my example of Meld) that I would install anyway. But a list is nice anyway just so I can curate things the way I like them. :)

Ubuntu is standing on top of Debian’s shoulders then. So is Kali, CrunchBang, MX Linux, Deepin, Rasbian, Tails, etc. Linux Mint is standing on top of Ubuntu’s shoulders which are standing on top of Debian’s shoulders. As is KDE Neon, elementaryOS, Bodhi, Pop!, Zorin, etc. Fedora and RedHat are standing on top of each other’s shoulders. Bazzite, Asahi, Alma, Rocky are standing on their shoulders.

EndeavourOS is also standing on top of Arch’s shoulders. So is Artix, Majaro, Garuda, Archbang and let’s not forget SteamOS.

That’s how FOSS works. And you do realise that it’s not a one way street right? They all contribute up and down stream… because again, that’s how the FOSS community works.

That’s a very cynical take on things :( I’m not sure why the Cachy devs would want to do that when they could just post, “Hey, here’s our distro, come take a look or try it out”. This is a FOSS community and they’re a FOSS product that people make in their spare time, not some huge for-profit trying to squeeze as much out of folks as possible.

I would think a post of me gushing about how I switched to CachyOS after a decade of Arch and how much amazeballs super excellent wonderful blazing fast easy to use easy to install blah blah blah would be more of a red flag than me asking what specific extra packages are installed lol.
