  • I’ve always seen the end state as too difficult to stabilize. Mixed systems where Socialist ideals keep capitalist ones in check seem to work best long term because it satisfies natural human ambition without allowing the monied interests to acquire to much social and political power. (the New Deal, Nordic model)

Under most communist systems, especially in democratic societies, ironically, the proletariat still lacks true power as the operators of the means of production (the foreman or the managers) end up also being the leaders of the government. This is no different than oligarchy, just inversed.

In a proper system, there should be a separation of business and state just as there is a separation of church and state; for precisely the same reason.

  • Back when I was still on reddit (and r/askreddit wasn’t a cesspool of AI ragebait) someone asked if there were books people recommended, everyone should read, and I came up with this list of 6 if you want a good basis for reasoned philosophical thought:

    • Plato’s Republic

    • Sun Tzu’s The Art of War

    • Marcus Aurelius’s Meditations

    • Machiavelli’s The Prince (Machiavelli also wrote an “Art of War” and that’s also worth reading)

    • Adam Smith’s The Wealth of Nations

    • Karl Marx’s The Communist Manifesto

The Republic defines what society’s goals should look like

The Art of War defines how to resolve conflict

Meditations teaches one how to remain objective under pressure

The Prince defines that what is OBJECTIVELY TRUE is not always what is MORALLY CORRECT

The Wealth of Nations lays out a case against Feudalism and how a functional economy should operate.

The Communist Manifesto details the natural rights of everyone to equality and shared prosperity.

Marxist Communism is a bit myopic as it really deals with factory work, and the failures of a Capitalist system to deliver on the promise of class mobility. He and Engels envisioned a classless society, and while that is a fine ideal, historically, achieving that though strictly amicable means is a bit pie in the sky, not to mention the arguments against it citing human ambition as a stumbling block aren’t without merit.

  • I make my living off the evening news.

Just give me something, something I can use:

People love it when you lose, they love dirty laundry…

Well, I could’ve been an actor, but I wound up here; I just have to look good, I don’t have to be clear.

Come and whisper in my ear, give us dirty laundry!

Kick 'em when they’re up, kick 'em when they’re down!

Kick 'em when they’re up, kick 'em when they’re down!

Kick 'em when they’re up, kick 'em when they’re down!

Kick 'em when they’re up, kick 'em all around…

We got the bubble-headed bleached-blonde, comes on at 5; She can tell you 'bout the plane crash with a gleam in her eye.

It’s interesting when people die, give us dirty laundry!

Can we film the operation? Is the head dead yet?

You know, the boys in the newsroom got a running bet!

“Get the widow on the set,” we need dirty laundry…

You don’t really need to find out what’s goin’ on.

You don’t really wanna know just how far it’s gone.

Just leave well enough alone, keep your dirty laundry…

Dirty little secrets, dirty little lies…

We got our dirty little fingers in everybody’s pie.

We love to cut you down to size, we love dirty laundry!

We can do “The Innuendo,” we can dance and sing; When it’s said and done, we haven’t told you a thing!

We all know that crap is king, give us dirty laundry.

    -Don Henley, Dirty Laundry

  • The tells are getting subtler but currently a good tell is the camera work. If the video looks amateurish (grainy, blurry), but the video is more stable than a $60k gimbal mounted movie grade model with active scene stabilization, it’s probably AI. Another giveaway is motion morphing items from hammerspace where there’s a visible “seam” where the LLM is trying to reconcile two prompts. (example: you see a video of a horse rider, and the bridle and reins might suddenly decrease in length instead of becoming taught when the rider wishes the horse to stop, or you may see objects morph into existence from other structures, but so fast you might have to rewatch it a few times to catch it.)
