As a Canadian, I have no problem supporting our EU friends.

And to be honest, just looking at the list you can tell that the ethics within those companies are completely different than what you find with the American alternatives.

Even without a dictator leading the States, buying European would still be better. 🤭

But I couldn’t tell if they were legitimately trying to blow up diplomatic relations like they did, or if they thought they were going to get the upper hand in exploring Ukraine for their natural resources.

It was a show for Putin. A test of loyalty.

Just look at how they spoke of Putin as if he was reasonable and had reason to be upset with Zelenskyy. Meanwhile, they treated Zelenskyy as if he was the problem.

Trump still denies calling Zelenskyy a dictator… From a few days prior.

Weak, untrustworthy, and difficult to even be allies with.

There are very few, if any, world leaders who acted as unhinged as dumb and dumber did.

It (once again) showed their loyalty to Putin. In their mind, this was a massive success.

Seinfeld is a more “family friendly” option.

But Curb Your Enthusiasm can be put on an endless loop, and I’d still laugh my ass off at every episode.

Time feels way faster as you get older.

It’s also pretty grim that the people you know are either dying, dead, or have a life altering illness that comes out of nowhere. I feel like there’s a funeral in my family once a month, rather than once every decade.

We had a big ass satillite dish in the backyard when I was growing up, and I remember my dad needing to input these codes every so often to unlock a bunch of channels.

But glass is easy to sterilize at the point of purchase and refilled. There are “zero waste” stores that do something like this already, so there’s nothing to bring in other than bulk product (instead of 100 cans or bottles).

Doesn’t work everywhere in our current, high-profit, low-care business models.

I don’t disagree at all. I wish we had more options.

More glass with compatibility with mason jar lids would be a win for everyone. You can recycle 5them if you want, reuse them easily, and they can remain in circulation for a very long time.

The only caveat with glass is that you have too many idiots breaking them on sidewalks, bike lanes, and parks.

It’s not really the metal that’s bad, but the coating on the inside of the metal (in contact with your food/water), that raises concerns.

Glass is best, but food/water in glass containers are often considerably more expensive.

My thoughts, exactly.

This move was simple intelligence gathering. Now he knows how the world will respond to this threat. He’s far more prepared to do it for real the next time.

Canada should hold their ground and call his bluff. Make him suffer for just the idea of threatening us.

We adopted a yellow-headed amazon (parrot) in his 40s. For months he was shy and kept to himself.

One day, seemingly out of the blue, he began whistling songs, cat-calling, saying his name, asking for a cracker, etc. He had like an entire repertoire!

Most unexpected, funniest thing that’s happened with any of our pets.

Close second is a cat that would play fetch, like a dog!

Tech companies only care about making money. If people continue to buy their half-effort products, then they’ll keep making it.

On the other hand, open-source (hardware or software) is designed for maximum longevity.

Unfortunately, the wrong people have unlimited resources when it comes to making our tech products.

I’ve used plenty of Linux VMs through Windows, so I’m aware of the limitations. I’m not trying to game through a VM, more like accessing some programs that I need for a few minutes at a time (and not even on a daily basis).

Can you share the software you went to use? Maybe there’s a good Linux alternative or someone knows how to get it working in wine.

These are all paid programs that don’t have viable alternatives and/or I actually need to use them.

A few off the top of my head:

• Excire Foto
• Jpegmini Pro
• Garmin Basecamp
• Garmin Express
• several paid video editing/photo editing apps; I’ve tried alternatives, but they aren’t nearly as intuitive.
• Reolink camera software.
• ACP Ups software.

I do my best to find alternatives to other software, and prefer to use self-hosted solutions, but the ones above aren’t really easy to replace, so I’d rather just run them in a VM.

I’ve use VMs in windows to run Linux, so I’m aware of the performance hit and possible startup times (but I use snapshots for quick access). I’m not too concerned about that for any of these programs, since I’m only using them from time-to-time.

Bottles didn’t run anything I tried, unfortunately. They seemed to install just fine, but that was about it.

Because social media amplifies and incentivises minority, hateful views to make it seem like everyone is concerned about these things.

The reality is, it’s the same small group of hateful idiots who are always in the spotlight.

In real life, even in small towns, people either don’t care or they celebrate how far we’ve come as a society.

Ok, I think I’ll grab another drive and try again over the weekend.

Their forum is pretty good, and there’s a dedicated linux section there, too. They also have extensive support documentation.

I’m sure I can get it working to be more stable, but man, it’s an effort for sure.

My laptop is a Framework and has official support for Fedora and Ubuntu. I wouldn’t expect these kinds of issue, TBH.

I can probably try a few more distros, but I’m just disappointed that the experience seems to always be the same :(
