Depends on where the burden is being placed. If it’s adding more hoops for everyday people to jump through to get what they need, no. If it’s adding more hoops for large organizations and corporations who can hire people for compliance, yes. If it’s just hiring more people on the government side to analyze the existing data, but the forms and processes stay the same on the other end, sure.
I agree, displaced person’s should get a vote. Ideally people in the occupied territories would too, but thats just not feasible. Just like how in 1864 the blacks in the south shouldve gotten to vote since they were all now freed under the emancipation proclamation, and they had the most at stake in the conflict, but the confederacy was never going to allow that. That doesn’t mean the north shouldn’t have had an election because not everyone could participate.
The people in the occupied territories may not be as pro-ukrainian as you might think though, a lot of them probably just want the war to be over and for the bombs to stop falling on them. Hell putin might allow an election if he knows they’ll vote for peace.
Why, the U.S. has had many elections during wars, many of which become a referendum on whether to stay in the war. The 1864 election had candidates openly advocating for ending the civil war. The 1968 election had multiple nominees on the democratic side advocating to end the Vietnam War, and the winner Nixon was campaigning on ending the war "with honor.
The people should have a say in whether there country continues a war, to say otherwise is undemocratic and patronizing.
This should be a referendum. Zelensky has staked his reputation and legitimacy on winning this war. If the question is independence and more war or become a colony of Russia then a lot would be on board. If the question is become a colony of Russia and peace or become a colony of America and more war, I think that’s a tougher call to make.

During this time Biden did nothing to reign in the Israelis, and instead tried to throw it under the rug to get a deal with the Saudis to normalize relations. Then Oct 7th happened and Israel went on a full onslaught against Gaza, and to a lesser extent the west bank and Lebanon. Biden again did nothing to stop this and continued to give military aid and diplomatic support to Israel. By the end of his administration Gaza was uninhabitable. Now trump seems primed to allow Israel to finish what it started and complete the ethnic cleansing.

They never really wanted gaza, it’s a small piece of land with little historical ties to the bible/Torah. In fact it has more ties to the philistines (non jewish inhabitants of the area), yes that’s where the word Palestine comes from, who were there historical enemy.
There long term goal pre October 7th was to try and move all the Palestinians in the rest of Israel into Gaza. You could see this with there funnel immigration policy, if you left Israel for east Jerusalem you couldn’t come back to israel, if you left east Jerusalem for the west bank you couldn’t come back to Jerusalem, if you left the west bank for Gaza you couldn’t come back to the west bank.
The problem with this plan, besides the ethics of doing a slow ethnic cleansing, was that if you concentrate that many people in an open air prison it tends to radicalize them against the wardens. So they had to deal with constant missile fire, they thought Iron dome would solve this but Oct 7th removed that image of safety.
So now they need a new plan. They can’t force them out as no country will take them. They can’t occupy it long term because it just becomes a pit to throw Israeli soldiers in, that’s why they left in 2005. So trump volunteering to take it off there hands is the perfect solution, the u.s. can pay the money and lives in a quagmire while the Israelis can “live in peace”

We need to ban advertising for all addictive substances/activities. We’ve mostly come to terms with the fact that mixing addiction and marketing are horrible for public health when it comes to cigarettes. We need to extend that to gambling, alcohol, Marijuana, hell even sugary drinks.
Even ignoring the public health implications, it’s just cruel to recovering addicts. It must suck to see advertisements of attractive people having fun drinking beer if you’re a recovering alcoholic and are just trying to forget about it.
I’m opposed to prohibition as it just ends up jailing minorities and empowering the police, but just because we make something legal to consume doesn’t mean we have to give it over to the market and capitalism with its perverse incentives for growth at all costs.
