In my experience, a stable beginner friendly distro such as mint, is 10x closer to “just working” but…

I do think that the windos DE tends to be more reliable than any linux DE I have tested. The only DE that compares is gnome, which I find very very stable (but I hate it)

I think that non-technical people are just used to a simple playbook of:

    1. GUI is rarely the issue, so you never need to see the terminal.
    2. If there is an issue, restart
    3. If that didn’t work, ask for help from your local techy

And for linux step 3 usually doesn’t work because your local techy is probably someone who just knows how to google and paste into cmd.

  • Does it count if you live in a very religious state that has pushed religion down your throat all your life but you resisted? For me I think I was about 22 when I started to see religion as not just a personal belief, but as a tool used by power hungry men to hurt and control others. I used to respect my religious peers, now I feel sad for them, because I know that they were raised into it so hard that I can’t really blame them. The sad thing is, even though I live in one of the most developed nations in the world. I am still in a part of it where criticism of religion, past not believing it, can come with a high social price.

  • Nope, and the horrible thing is that I have a high earning job while they didn’t even work, they got to live off of my grandparents’ wealth (which was half from actual impressive entrepreneurship and half from just buying cheap land that over the years became very valuable) and then they mady terrible financial decisions (as rich kids often do) and now I get to earn my own money. I’m glad that I get to be independent, but sure would have been fun to have some family wealth as well…

  • Ungoogled chromium, sadly FF has been getting worse over the years (partially because it is getting worse and partially because web developers happen to ignore it’s existence) also Chromium has superior security.

I’m hopeful about the future of ladybird but it will take a long time until it is a possible daily driver.
