I always try and do my own repairs. Coffee machine, bicycle, electronics, anything that I’m capable of doing myself without risking catastrophe/death (I stay away from plumbing and electrical repairs mostly). If I can find a way to save money (cut my own hair, home gym instead of gym membership) I try and pursue that so I need to spend less time slaving away for my employer.
I wish I could do major repairs at home too, but I’m forced to rent so not legally allowed to.
Nihilism is one of those concepts I can never remember a definition of, so I end up having to look it up every few years. Recently I’ve been called nihilistic for my opinion that bringing children into this world is irresponsible, because they will be likely to experience suffering, without an opportunity to first consent to being born. If nihilism is defined by an absence of moral values or a lack of caring, I don’t see how it would apply to my stated position. I choose not to have children precisely because I care, and couldn’t justify taking the chance that my child wouldn’t want to exist.
I’m probably misunderstanding the concept, but so far I haven’t been interested enough in it to do a deep dive and read Nietzsche or whatever.
Maybe humans should quit playing god and trying to enforce the ecology they deem correct.
Fuck it, if they’re so well adapted, let cats wipe out everything they get their claws on and have them be the new evolutionary starting point. Maybe in a few hundred thousand years we’ll have entirely new winged or underwater feline subspecies, perfectly adapted to every remaining ecological niche.
It would certainly be funnier than this constant battle against windmills of our own making.

The fact that they can be used to for sexual assault is tragic, but nobody should be charged with a crime they did not commit.

I’m a male vegan anarchist and reject every form of mistreatment based on immutable qualities like species, ethnicity, sex etc. At the same time women in my life have consistently broken my trust, which has left me with some generalized cynical views about them. I also believe that the west is at a point where women often receive preferential treatment in sectors like education and hiring, so advocating for them while men are left behind doesn’t make much sense to me. I do not consider myself a feminist.

Thank you! However I think “Appearance > Default View” only affects of posts on the front page or in communities, not the comments themselves. I’m not sure what the full height images toggle affects, but changing the setting also had no effect on embedded images in comments.

Seconding this request. Images take up a ton of space, and most times I’d rather read text comments than scroll through dozens of reaction images.
