I work in this industry, and most of the american employees are not great. Also there are huge language barriers, so training is extremely difficult when these machines have 3,000 parts and are as long as a football field. Finding good employees is tricky and the smaller plants usually ignore OSHA laws and put their employees health at risk.

Well Duh. Companies don’t want to spend money in a country they aren’t welcome.

American manufacturing is dying because of Trump. I’m in the manufacturing industry and 90% of our customers stopped purchasing in November and went into money saving mode. It’s now august, we have had zero large orders come in and customers are only getting the necessary repairs when they are down and losing tens of thousands of dollars a day in lost production.

Oh also, most of the manufacturer’s in the US use machines with imported parts. ALL OF THOSE PARTS are now 15-50% more expensive for no reason, so they are losing money and have to charge more. Tariffs are ruining the manufacturing industry quickly.

Yeah, i would encourage all international communities to boycott the US entirely until Pedo don is in prison and the nazi’s aren’t in charge any longer.

The communities exist, but there are no people in them. 1 person per month active is not a community. So most of the communties even on lemmy.world are barren. It’s pretty much just politics, memes, and linux stuff that stays active enough to be interesting.

All the forums I was on aren’t really active anymore as the user base changed substantially and admins changed. I miss the forum days. 90% helpful and only 10% BS. Now it’s the opposite on social media.

Yeah i really don’t think the majority of the population realizes how delicate the global trade system is.

Just recently on August 19th, ALL parts with steel or aluminum in them are tariffed an additional 50%. This covers hundreds of thousands of products we all purchase, and there is ZERO chance of them being manufactured in the USA. This will ruin most of the US economy for those parts as prices skyrocket.

Make sure to buy your car parts NOW before the warehouses are empty and they have to reorder at a 50% higher cost. The tariff covers all car parts including oil filters.

The media is very quiet about this, and we all know why.

Hopefully Mexico realizes this is just another way for him to gain more power and control and he has no intention of actually doing anything about the cartels. He is calling so many things emergencies to bypass the law and do whatever he wants. Mexico would be much safer without US troops all over the place.
